Avoid AoOs - 5' step into target's square?

Just so we're clear where I'm headed:
  • Tiny and smaller creatures can take 5-foot steps, so long as their movment speed is above 5ft.
  • 5-ft Steps are "movement".
  • Tiny or smaller creatures can move into (and stay in) larger creature's squares.
  • therefore Tiny or smaller creatures can 5-ft step into larger creature's squares.

This (and anything that depends on this) is what I have an issue with, only because I'm not keen on the consequences of the definition. Can you define what you think is "movement" so that we can assign it to something like 5ft-step? If so, what else then also becomes "movement", and that's where I think you'll see issues as I've described above. If you see them as non-issues, then that's where a bigger discussion will occur. :)

In other words, I think you'll be okay if you define movement as something like any of the following:
  1. A Move Action in which you move up to your speed
  2. Run full round action
  3. Withdraw full round action (or restricted action)
  4. Charge full round action (or restricted action)
  5. 5ft-step
  6. Bull-rush
What about initiating a grapple (not as improved grab)? What about "side-stepping" a blade barrier? What about falling? What about standing up? Dropping to prone? Kneeling?

Anything else? :D

...but they can't move into/stay in tiny or smaller creature's squares? (Sorry, but I couldn't resist... : )

Heh, heh. :p

Tiny or smaller creatures don't have squares per se.

Tiny, Diminutive, and Fine Creatures: Very small creatures take up less than 1 square of space. This means that more than one such creature can fit into a single square.

Sure, that looks good. Jumping is covered in the list....and yet still has some wonky side-effects. Initiating a grapple is movement, as you (generally) go from one square to the next. Falling is movement....but common sense dictates it's not limited by the creature's normal movement speed. Etc.

In most game contexts - I think -, movement is: "An action a creature takes that moves it from one square to another, excluding teleportation spells and the like."
