A suffusion of yellow
I missed The Flash when it took a break last week and perhaps thats why I was underwhelmed by this weeks offering. To be fair it was okay and managed to pack a whole lot of goodness into its 1 hour slot. In particular it was fun to see the support cast out of the lab and actually interacting socially, it gave a bit more depth to the team and made Cisco seem less annoying.
It was good to see a sympathetic non-evil Metahuman opponent in the form of the re-imagined Plastique and her simple vendetta plot. A bit more character development would have been awesome, including her squashing Cisco dorkness, but I suppose time constraints blahblah. I'm also guessing that despite her apparent demise this isn't the last time we will see Platique (it might even bode well for a Suicide Squad tie-in)
The other villain of the week was General Eiling, presented as standard-issue military badass. Like Plastique he wasnt outright evil either - the shades of grey building up in this 'bright' show are actually kind of neat. Eiling has a history with Wells including experiments in telepathy wherein a Gorilla Grodd was a test subject - and thats awesome! I had expected the Grodd reference in the Pilot to be the last we'd see of him, but just maybe the mighty Simian will play a major role in future episodes/seasons. The Wells -Eiling conflict was juicy, and further highlighted Wells sinister side. *NB I mainly know Eiling from his Justice League Unlimited appearance but I'm hoping they don't do to Eiling what the comics did - ie please keep him as the Thunderbolt Ross stand-in not the Red Hulk.
Iris was also less annoying this week and her relationship with Barry and the issues of her Blog were actually interesting for once. They set up a nice 'Lois-Supes' moment, and an emotional connect for all the budding romantics to hang a hat on.
The flash stuff of the week was him learning to use his various powers whether it was the face-blur, the funny voices or the soberiety + metabolism. Of course the BIG set peices of him running up walls and across water were well done and didn't appear at all forced - so good work CWFX department
I liked the "Oh my God, do I sound like Felicity?" comment from Caitlin, that was a fun tie-in
and did anyone pick up on Wells talking about 'reversing ones fortune" or am I reading too much into that?
