BADD Question: Can dragons use Dexterity tomes?

Saladrex

First Post
Hello all, hello B.A.D.D. members,

The low characteristic of a dragon is his dexterity. If a dragon has in his treasure a Tome of Dexterity can he use it? Is there any restriction that forbids him to?
Those extra dex. points can surely be helpful on Initiative, etc.

Thanks!

I´m this guys DM... its not a regular campaign so my ruling isnt the final ruling... but I told him I thought the tomes were "HUMAN" or Humanoid centered... and that intelectual/mind oriented tomes would be fine for a Dragon... since brains tend to be brains no matter what... but that the physical tomes were geared for Humanoid shape and physiology. Training exercise routines and good nutrition for humans doesnt make sense for dragons... just my 2 cents...

Ah - but it is a magical text - and has things which apply for all creatures...

If the big bad dragon has such a tome - sure he can use it, only makes him just a little bit badder to have an inherent bonus to his dexterity score.

Odds are however, this is a fairly unique dragon - ya know... like a great red wyrm who also has oh... 20levels of wizard or so - which would make him all the badder.

It's the DM's call, as always, but there's no reason it wouldn't work on dragons. The description doesn't say Humanoid only, and the tips are just filler for the intertwined magic.

Still, remember Rule 0; also, if it's an NPC, don't let it burn all of the treasure in this way. BADD recommends that no more than 10% of its treasure hoard should be useable by the dragon.

The various tomes and manuals require Wish or Miracle to create them. Basically, they can be thought of as a whole bunch of wish scrolls put in an easier to use form.

Since I see no reason that a Wish couldn't increase a dragon's attributes, I see no reason that a manual or tome could not achieve the same results.

Assuming they haven't already used such means to boost their attributes, the only things that would prevent this are greed or arrogance. Fortunately, many dragons have an excess of both those personality traits.
