D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

While Shadowheart comes off rather brusque to begin with, she has a much different personality than Yennefer. Granted, Yennefer is pretty much a monster by our standards.

If you look at the biographies for the BG3 characters now, there have been changes, some more then others. I think instead of Wyll & Karlach being the good ones, Shadowheart & Gale being the neutral ones, and Lae'zel and Astarion being the evil ones, there are early events that allow you to set the moral tone of the companions. So their alignment is shaped early on by your choices.

They all have dark and light paths, and always have done. They are all potential player characters after all. They have moved Wyll's "decision point" earlier, up to where he encounters Karlach, but the other characters are pretty much unchanged.

This may be for a mechanical reason - Wyll may need to find himself a new patron or multiclass.

I'm guessing the origin characters will have 1 level locked in as a specific class, then you can multiclass freely from there. Or as freely as your stats allow.

Ah, but Larian's statement that "patrons are in the game" makes me think it's like "paladin oaths are in the game". If you don't do your patron's bidding you lose your warlock powers. And Wyll's lightside arc requires him to disobey his patron.

I tried it played it for about 12 hours and then got a refund. It's not Baldurs Gate. It's Divinity (and I never liked that game) with 5e rules wrapped around it. The fact that your first encounter's at first level are Mind flayers and intellect devourers that can one shot even your tanks is silly if you are trying to sell it as a dnd game. It's plays like some of the ancient RPG's where you are supposed to die over and over to figure out each scene. I'll be really surprised if they manage to pull out a huge success on this one. I think this one is going to be like the DND movie. They'll scream thier succes to the heavens till they have to admit defeat. (unless all the old divinity fans like the dnd stuff wrapped around divinity. they might save it)

this is straight divinity gamestyle. Cross any line refuse to play as expected and the consequences are harsh and unforgiving.

The mind flayers are on your side, you can't fight them, and the opening section is piss-easy. If by "not Baldur's Gate" you mean "not jammed full of 90s pop culture jokes", then you are correct. It's a darker story.

Given how popular DOS2 was...yeah, I'm inclined to think that this will succeed then. The intersection between "plays Larian games" and "is a D&D fan" is gonna be pretty large. Not quite "one circle" but still large.

There's also a major wave in CRPGs these days of "nO hAnDhOlDiNg" so making the initial fights invoke some of the extreme difficulty of certain Throne of Bhaal fights may just be a winning strategy.

It doesn't really do that though. You start out with a few "lesser imps" then you have to "get to the helm", ignoring the battling mindflayer and Cambion (it is technically possible to Drizzt the cambion for his ubersword). Then there is an optional fight with a couple of intellect devourers who are easy enough if you stay out of melee range. Then you can fight (trick/intimidate) a rival party, with the help of the environment, which is the most "Larian" part of EA. The first tough fight are a bunch of undead in a nearby tomb.

DA2, which was mentioned earlier, is the one that opens with a big challenging fight.
