I wonder if the more explicit romance scenes are only those involving origin characters. 'Cause sex scenes involving someone half an adult human's size would probably be a lot more controversial than the bear scene.

I mean, humans with dwarfism exist, and I'm fairly sure that in most of the West, sexualized imagery with them in it is not seen as being "wrong" or something (rather unusual/deviant but not immoral).

If this was some dodgy anime-esque deal where "just coincidentally" the short race also looked like children, then I think we might have a brewing issue on our hands, but we've got: hirsute dwarfs, funny looking long-necked gnomes, and weirdly built little halflings, and really none of them look like kids, thank goodness.

Also let me be real for a minute, if Tav has less explicit scenes, or worse, just short races do, we're going to see a GAMER RIOT, frankly, because what's that going to translate directly to: ABLEISM. Very bad ableism. Ableism that denies the sexuality of people with dwarfism. D&D players, Larian players, they crossover hard with LGBTQ+ and anti-ableism communities.

So if Larian has done that? It is not going to end at all well for them. Not even slightly.

I remember seeing a dev-diary like video at the early stages of the Early Access, and they were showing some very early models for the romance scenes, and I distinctly recall there being dwarf models involved (as well as some pretty rough mock-ups where said gnome model was... interacting with a Medium-sized model). So unless they cut that stuff due to time constraints, it's likely that your race selection won't affect your romance options.

And I agree with @Ruin Explorer that hopefully they have not removed them. It'd be a pretty bad look.

Oh they're definitely still in, this is from the latest trailer. But if they've made them tamer than the normal-height race ones, there is going to be a backlash, and it's not going to be one where excuses are going to do anything but dig the hole deeper.

This seems like something that will likely cause a backlash whichever direction they take, just from different elements of the community.

Will it, though? Because generally mainstream media really doesn't like being called ableist, and the speed with which they will be labelled brutally ableist by people if they "come out against" obviously adult short people is going to be extremely high. And any gamer who is "against this sort of thing" is going to get cancelled from orbit with extreme prejudice by his own audience.

Also, notice the bear story never made the mainstream media. I have no doubt it went across desks at FOX, but clearly even with the potential it had, they didn't think it was worth it.

Aw man, I was looking forward to getting a headstart, but we're already going to play a month earlier than expected so I can't complain. Also, my Baldur's Gate 1 + 2 playthrough just got three extra days! I've yet to deal with the mines in Nashkel (update: just cleared the mines, take that Mulahey!), so this was sorely needed.

I just entered the cloak woods mine. I'm st the 47 hour mark. Probably my favorite game series ever.
