D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Wasn’t there a Basic or OD&D bard in a Dragon mag somewhere? Seem to recall seeing that online.

Anyway, confidently proclaiming one’s ignorance seems to be the true role of the internet.
Yeah there were at least two Dragon mag ones I'm aware of in 1E, separate from the dual-classed one.

I think one of those was kinda like the modern Bard, but the 2E Bard is genuinely quite close to the 5E Bard just with slightly less spellcasting, because literally no-one but Mages were full spellcasters in 2E - they did get up to 6th level spells, though, and got them before a single-class Mage got 7th level spells - so were casting 6th-level spells at the same time as the Wizard was. Combine that with the Bard Handbook in I think 1993, and you even have all the main modern Bard archetypes - Loremaster (Lore), Skald (Valor), Blade (Swords), and so on.

10 but two are mutually exclusive. The likely healers are Shadowheart (Cleric), Halsin (Druid) and Jaheira from BG1/2 (likely also Druid).

In addition there are 12 "mercenary"-type companions (who don't have full stories), one of each class in the game.

You can also multiclass or respec any companion freely, including out of their normal base class.

Shadowheart is generally considered one of the most interesting characters so I'm surprised you dislike her. She does claim to be evil though. Albeit in EA she doesn't do anything Evil, and disapproves of quite a few Evil actions soooooo...

Based on Early Access Bards will be more than enough.

They've changed how Short Rests work AND Bards grant an extra Short Rest per long rest.

So in BG3 you normally get 2 Short Rests per Long Rest, and each restores 50% of your HP. Hit Dice are not tracked (nor exist at all mechanically).

So with a Bard, using no spells at all, you can recover 150% of the HP of the entire party in-between Long Rests. And Long Rests are generally easy to take.

The only real use for healing spells is thus yoyoing people in combat, which any healer, including Bard, is fine for.

As noted you have 22 total people who can go with you, and you can respec any of them to any class, so BG3 has considerably more flexibility here.

Because they can potentially be influenced to be good or evil (except possibly Minsc), and the descriptions are hyping up the most dramatic thing about them, rather than focusing on their personal morals.

Breaking down initial leanings

Good:
Karlach
Wyll
Minsc
Halsin

Evil:
Shadowheart (though hmmmmm)
Lae'zel
Astarion
Minthara

Neutral:
Gale
Maybe Jaheira (but I think Good is more likely).

Either way, with the right arguments and situations (not merely "approval points" - indeed sometimes you may have to lose those to argue them round), you can apparently convince most companions to gradually better or worse people.

You're not, trust me. The Short Rest change means out-of-combat healing is less important than 5E, and with a Bard, it becomes a joke.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer other questions.

I think Wyll, Shadowheart, Lae'zel, Gale, Karlach, Astarion in full release will have early choice points which will shape their alignment, perfect example Wyll's choice to kill Karlach or not.

The game's soundtrack has been released on Youtube!

I'm a bit sad that none of the leitmotifs from the earlier games make a comeback (I love the BG1 Main Theme), but the soundtrack is amazing nevertheless. It's also nice to get the names on some of the songs we were already familiar with - Battle Music 3 (or, as its friends call it, Yamogabi) was Twisted Force all along!

Only 20 minutes left!.. Followed by a long, looong download period.

I have to say, I'm really surprised by how badly the /r/baldursgate subreddit took to the game's development. AFAIK any discussion of BG3 is banned there, and they preferred to remain this insular, grognard community that only talks about BG1 and 2. Don't get me wrong, those are good games (I was playing BG1 just before BG3 launched), but I just don't get why they disowned the third game with so much hate. It's like, only they get to be the real Baldur's Gate community, and the filthy casuals can go to the /r/bg3 subreddit.

Yeah, weird.

I like all of them so far. (Icewind Dale seemed a little shallow..meh..)

Reddit, insular and unwelcoming? Inconceivable!

I didn't know that. That's very strange, though I guess if people reacted really hard to the initial state of BG3, I could see it.

But like, at this point, it seems ridiculous.
