D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Also, weapon proficiency should absolutely grant cool maneuvers and combat options in the TTRPG system. I haven't been following 2024 5E closely: is that something they are implementing?

I want to say its part of some weapons now? I stopped following after the OGL debacle for the most part.

Quick question for those who are playing now, it looks like Variant Human isn't a thing, does anyone know if all characters get a feat at level 1? I'm waiting on the PS5 release next month, and want to go with a Monk for my first playthru but without the Mobile feat at 1st level I may start looking at other classes. Thanks!
Nope, no free feats for anyone at first level. Humans get a floating +2/+1 ASI, an extra skill proficiency in polearms, leather armour and shields, and increased carrying capacity.

Am currently playing a monk. Don't feel like I need mobility. They get an extra ki point (possibly more at higher level), plus four elements get an ability to regain half ki points outside of combat.

They will grant something in the new DnD, though it's just one passive effect per weapon type. So if you want a choice between two effects, better start swapping weapons around, exactly as is everyone's mental image of epic melee combat...

Understandable, but the game isn't an exact copy of the tabletop rules. Other characters can free your monk with their bonus action shoves, and you have more Ki to play around with (and short rests are instant out of combat).

They even buffed 4 Elements a little (single-target costs 1 Ki, area effects cost 2 Ki, as a rough rule) though it is still at complete odds with the rest of the class, because either you're casting or you're multi-attacking. And they kind of buffed Str Monks, as the only thing you lose by wearing heavy armor is your increased movement speed. And they made Tavern Brawler ridiculous for Monks.

The right tool for the right job. You use the lance to knock the knight of his mount but you use the long sword to kill him.

Happy to hear the class is playing well and the Ki buff is nice! Guess I'm going to have to give up on my dream of FoB mixed with no opportunity attacks when I run away until at least 8th level, but the extra Ki is nice. I'm now leaning towards either Wood Elf (extra speed, longsword, darkvision) or Asmodeous Tiefling (produce flame, hellish rebuke, darkvision) for my race and still going Shadow for my sub-class. September can't get here fast enough!
