D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

BG3 is now the best selling PS5 preorder, best selling on steam and on GOG.

Pre full release Steam Spy had BG3 at 2 million to 5 million range (turned out to be right, Swen said it was 2.5 million), it now has BG3 at 10 million to 20 million copies sold. 15 million copies is billion dollars in sales territory. That 10 to 20 million is only for steam, it doesn't count GOG or PS5. Over 800,000+ concurrent players on steam along, it's just a hair away from beating Harry Potter Legacy which has made well over a billion dollars.

I'm still slowly getting through the first section, just hit level 5.

If Wizards cannot capitalize on this, I'll be floored.

I think it should be a milestone, considering the already unprecidented success of 5e, its just a shame this didnt come out earlier, to more deeply influence 6e or whatever people are calling it.

I do still have my issues with the game, but I'm invested in FR damnit, and have been for too long to just give it up.

I'll save everyone the negative parts of my review till I'm done the game. :D

I will just mention that WotC already has a BG3 prequel adventure: Baldur's Gate: Decent to Avernus. BG3 regularly references events in that adventure.

The sensible thing to do would be to dust it off and re-release it as a "special edition" with a new cover.

IMHO one of the best ways to capitalize on this is a proper FRCG book for 5.5e.

I don't see how re-releasing an adventure that isn't a tabletop adaptation of BG3 would fulfill the need for a tabletop adaptation of BG3.

It provides a way to get computer game players who are not tabletop gamers to buy a D&D book. "You want to know what happened leading up to your favourite computer game? Buy this book."
