belt of might? +1 or +2 to all scores

so I have vauge memories of an item that gave a bonus to all ability scores,
But I don't remember if it still did even numbers only, or was available as a +1,+2 or +3
if +2 ill assume 4k x6 = 24k +50% = 36k value
but if its +1 2k x6 12k+50% = 18k ??

I think it depends on how you look at it. It's great for characters with MAD I imagine, but the nearly brain-dead str/con based orc barbarian probably won't benefit hugely from it.

I'd say that's irrelevant, since the price should be based on those who'll actually want the item. I don't think a Cloak of Charisma should be cheaper, for example, just because less characters are likely to benefit from it than from Amulets of Health.
 

Belt of Magnificence [Miniatures Handbook]
+2 to all ability scores = 25,000 gp
+4 to all ability scores = 100,000 gp
+6 to all ability scores = 200,000 gp

It breaks the pricing guidelines, plain & simple. Yes, I know, guidelines, not rules; but it's still cheaper than buying an equivalent-bonus item for each ability score. Which makes no sense.

That nearly brain-dead orc still gets better saves across the board, Initiative & possibly AC, more skill points, & that all-important higher bonus to Intimidate. (Okay, that last one is pretty weak, but the item still provides benefits that exceed it's supposed value compared to equivalent items.)

6 4,000 GP items = 24,000
6 16,000 GP items = 96,000
6 36,000 GP items = 218,000.

So the costs are actually very close. They just capped the +6 item to keep it under 200,000.

Now accounting for slots and stuff like that, yes it is much nicer than 6 items. But I'd hardly call it broken (at least until epic-ish levels.)

You forgot to add the cost of combining items. That's what, +90,000gp to the +6 version? Then add the cost for lack of slot affinity for most of the bonuses.

I never said broken (in the sense of being powerful; it was referring to an actual breaking of rules). :p
 

Magic item pricing guidelines are just that, guidelines, not rules. 300k for +6 to all stats is not a reasonable price. That, and no one is going to buy 6 +6 stat boosting items. That would be a waste of resources. I think the belts are actually priced very well.

True -- there is a lot of opportunity cost in switching to a belt of excellence as you will almsot surely have individual stat boosting items as well. It seems too cheap but seems to balance out remarkably well in paractice.
