D&D (2024) Best fix for conjure minor elemental?

CME clearly scales harder than intended.

So what's the best way to fix it?
Once per turn?
Scale by 1d8 per level?
1d8 every other level?
Something else?
Once per attack from the attack action only. So, if one substitutes a multitarget cantrip for an attack using a class feature the spell only triggers once.
I think that is the rule as intended.

The game really slows down when you get 8+ creatures on the table.

And they have Summon Elemental for the actual summoning, limited to 1 creature.
Then make it if they summon numbers, they can't be used for combat (or use mob rules). Depending on the size of the group, if someone in the party summoned 4 or more, that's what I'd probably do.

The simplest solution is to remove the difficult terrain feature, and then it being a concentration spell should solve the problem, since the guy/gal with all the glowy stuff around them make them an obvious target and someone is more likely to get to them without difficult terrain.

A more interesting solution would be for the spell to be more like hex and target a creature for the duration based on the level of the spell. Since the target now has a bunch of glowy stuff around it, you are basically getting the effects of hex and faerie fire for the cost of 1 spell slot (and concentration).

You could do something similar with woodland beings, except that everything has half cover from the target as those fey spirits are flittering in front of it, partially blocking its view.

Not sure what I would do for conjure animals, maybe damage plus chance of being knocked prone?

Decide the niche you want the spell to fulfil.

If it is for dedicated gishes to boost their damage, scale it at +1d8/2 levels upcast.

If it is to give spellcasters more melee/close up damage, keep existing scaling, but it only activates 1/round.

Limiting CME to actually conjuring 1 elemental of CR 2 (or something similar) is a much better solution than "have a weapon buff."

They already did that in a previous book. It's called Summon Elemental, Summon Fey, etc...

Now they had to remove the Conjure X spells in a different way.

Not that a bonus to attacks would of been my first choice.

EVERY player can slow the game down. What spell do I cast? Which way do I move? People focus WAY to much on summoned stuff when any and all classes can grind a table to a halt. Its really far more player dependent. EVERY summoner I know is far far more organized than almost every other player at the table, and thus move along pretty well.

I think I would have liked if they were mobile AoEs to simulate swarms. Or just use swarm rules and have them be true summons.
