Best on TV Right Now? Post Your Opinion.

Hi

There are some seriously good series (heh) on TV right now. This thread is for voicing your opinion on what's best. There's no strict rules - you can mention more than one series, if you can't decide.

IMO the best series right now is HBO's The Wire. By a wide margin.

Just damn that series is good. Takes the tired genre of police series to a new level. Or really, it's not only about the cops. It's at the same time about police, politics, schools and the criminals (or, to make it sound more boring, about the institutions, be it the PD, a criminal organization, and what those institutions do to their members). The bad guys aren't put neatly in to jail at the end of each episode. Usually the polices' difficulties come from within the institution they work for, instead of from the criminals. The politicians and, following from that, the higher-ups in the police organization have foiled more investigations in the four seasons than the criminals themselves.

"Let's bust heads, the western district way" ;)

Of course, the one downside is that it's pretty difficult follow just a single episode, because one season is one storyline (or multiple). Also, action happens also off-screen, so one needs to be alert. But it's very rewarding.

So, voice your opinion! What's good/best on TV?

Studio 60 is my favorite show of the new season followed by Heros. I still really enjoy Smallville and Supernatural as well as How I met your Mother and Dr Who. Eureka was a great summer surprise Criminal Minds is always good.

Battlestar Galactica, by a wide margin...

It's the best drama on televison with the added bonus of having spaceships and a sexy (God-fearing) robot . I can't honestly see how anything can top that.

I ate up the two first seasons, but now I'm not sure about the first two I've seen of season 3. A great show, no doubt, but laying it on a bit thick this season. Best sci-fi series I've seen, though (take that, Firefly, even with the risk of derailing the thread ;)).

I don't watch enough TV to claim to know what's actually the best show. There may be anynumber of really good shows that I'm missing out on.

Well, if the thing can breed with humans, I don't see how you can really call it a "robot" with a straight face. It may be a constructed being, but it it ain't no robot. Eventually, the colonials will catch on to that...

That being said, BSG is one of my favorites, too :)

I called her a robot because that makes her even sexier.

(Well, to me anyway. I blame too much Star Trek in my formative years.)

I'll add another vote for Battlestar Galactica.

Also, I caught the first two episodes of Dexter during my free Showtime preview weekend. This is a really good series. I'll probably pick up the DVDs to see how it turns out.

Battlestar Galactica.

The three runners up in my opinion were:

1. Carnivale
2. Dead Like Me
3. Firefly

And, of course, all three of those have now been cancelled. Let's just hope that my anticipation for The Dresden Files isn't destroyed by the series either being terrible, or being cancelled.

Favorite running show right now is Eureka.

Also very good right now: Dr. Who, Atlantis, Ghost Whisperer, Scrubs, Medium, Daily Show, Countdown with Kieth Olberman (Yes it is real news but I find myself actually making a point to watch it).

Of to a slow start this season but we'll see: Supernatural, Heroes, Lost

I am gennerally not counting no longer running shows but I will add one that I am only discovering now because I don't get showtime, and that is Dead Like Me. I am enjoying it for the first time as sci-Fi channels airs the reruns.
