Billie Piper to quit Dr Who

Or course, I liked Mickey for the same reason. Though, for the record, I did not find him hot.)

Only watched the first season so far. I think you are right, in that Micky seemed like a pretty real person. Unfortunately, he was also annoying as all get out.

As long as she doesn't start singing again!

Replacements? Captain Jack's getting his own TV series, so he's out. How about the Face of Boe? :D

If you are going for existing characters then I want Nancy (Florence Hoath) from the Empty Child. She is currently out of work and a great actress.

Ooo! Seconded. I liked that character a lot, and she could provide some really interesting perspectives being from the WW2 era. The one problem I see with using her, though, is how to get her to leave her boy behind? Having them both tag along strikes me as something the Doctor wouldn't do, though I admit I haven't watched the second season yet.

I would go for the sad note on that and something the Brits might be able to still understand and kill off her son. The Doctor shows up in London on V-E day and there is much celebrating. He runs into Nancy who who is sad and depressed. The Doctor asks her what is wrong because there is so much to celebrate and she says her son was killed in the final months of the war by a V-2 Rocket. The Doctor discovers while he is there some alien plot/problem (it is Dr. Who of course) and just like before Nancy helps him solve the problem. Already having two alien experiences with the Doctor and nothing left for her in the "present" because her son is dead she agrees to join the Doctor. This then also solves the anoying problem Rose (as much as I like her) always dealing with her mom and home life.

I will agree tthat Rose draws the most limelight for a human companion, but there were two other ones that really stood out as well so precedent for a strong companion has been there before. I give you:

Leela of the Sevateem (SNIP)

Leela was without a doubt my favorite Doctor Who Companion of all time (maybe with Ace as a second). She was a heck of a lot better than Sarah Jane Smith, whom she replaced (the writing for Elizabeth Sladen was HORRIBLE, because she was both spunky AND helpless? Shades of Lois Lane!)

Having only seen the first season on Sci-Fi, Rose has been a fun addition, and her chemistry with Eccleston was fantastic, making me really sorry to see Eccleston go, because he injected a bit of Tom Baker back into Who, which was what it really needed when getting back off the ground. She reminded me more of Leela's "Get OFF your ASS and help the Doctor!" attitude than anyone else.

I really can't stand Rose so this is great news. At least in Season 2(28) The Doctor is again the star of the show. Too often in the C.E. era he stood aroudn while others did the real work, and the show was definately the Rose show more than the Doctor Who show.

Tennent is a exponentially better Doctor and with a new companion maybe this show will rivial some of my favorite Pertwee & Tom Baker runs.

Die Rose Die! :D

P.S. Henry...Ace? Ace? God she was only slightly better than Mel. I really hated Ace and Doc #7. :)

Oh lord yes. There are enough painful people in reality, I don't need to watch one on TV.

buzzard

Yep, Leela gets my vote. But I am all too familiar with being outvoted in this thread :( . . so I'll just go and watch something else I think. *sniff*

From what I understood previously, the plan was that Jack would only be on Torchwood's first season, and that he'd be back as a companion in season 3 of Doctor Who (since he was originally going to be back in 2, but couldn't for scheduling reasons). So possibly, he could be back.

I expect that they'll probably give us a brand new companion, though.
