Billie Piper to quit Dr Who

Mel I never got to see much of

Well, there wasn't much of Mel. I think she was on two seasons, from the Trial of a Time Lord to Dragonfire -- maybe a half-dozen stories. One of the shorter companions, rivalled only by a few others.

She just couldn't cut it, I think -- she couldn't scream for as long as the role of female Companion required [/snark].

There is another great companion but he probably won't be coming back to Doctor Who as a regular since he just got his own show. That is of course K-9. :)

w00t!!!

Good times, good times. I think that I will probably watch anything related to Dr. Who without critical comment. The same goes for Star Trek and Star Wars. I guess I'm not very discerning.

Gotta tell my wife -- I'm sure she'll be as excited as I am.

Worst. Cosmic Wars. Ever. I will only see it three more times, today. -- Comic Book Guy

I've got to say my all time favourite companion was Leela of the Sevateem, but that partly reflects that the Tom Baker era was my prime Dr Who watching age (I remember watching Jon Pertwee with Jo Grant, but not before) and later on I was getting a bit more cynical as a teenager and adult. Honorable mention for Nicola Bryant as Peri doing to the american accent what Dick van Dyke did to the cockney accent.

I like Rose, but don't mind seeing her go. The companions must not outshine/outlast the Doctor.

Maybe now we can do some non-Earth stories (I've only seen S1).

Probably in a minority here, but I always liked Adric. I really liked Sarah-Jane Smith and Leela as well. For some reason, I kind of liked Turlough as well, maybe because he was so different from other companions (he was conflicted, while everyone else was so goody-goody. :)
