Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

ooc: folks, i'll be gone untill monday. Meanwhile you guys can decide on things like marching order, watch strategy and whatnot for when you hit the road.

The next morning you are all waked by a servant. After that breakfast is served in the diner. Dunbar is present form the breakfast on, Lord Graven is nowhere to be seen.
If you all have no interruptions or questions your depart during the morning will go smoothly and uneventfull.

Mordik wakes and puts on his armor slowly. He joins the others at the breakfast table a few minutes late.

Eanos, human monk

Eanos wakes from a solid night's rest, wondering how long it might be before he has another. He puts his boots back on and shoulders his pack, then joins the others to discuss their journey preparedness.

ooc: Eanos, Quarion and Odno have double-digit Spot skills, so IMO they should be at or near the front: Eanos and Quarion, and Odno behind them, with Aletheia. That leaves Mordik behind.

[sblock=Marching Order]Other factors:

* Mordik has a sneak attack, which is more effective in a surprise round if he has a clean shot (not likely if he's taking up the rear).

* It may be useful to have someone with good observation skills (spot/listen) at the back, as well, to avoid being snuck up on from behind.

* Quarion has an animal companion. I'm not sure if Garma is assumed to be wherever Quarion is in the order or not, but that extra body (and set of ears / teeth) should probably be considered.

* Looks like Eanos has the best melee BAB (with Mordik and Garma close behind), but he's also the fastest biped, so he can arguably move to the front to engage in melee more easily than others.

* No one has amazing AC, but Eanos and Mordik have the most HP (not counting Garma).

* Quarion and Mordik have what look to be the best ranged weapons, which are hampered if they have to shoot over / through folks (I'm sometimes fuzzy on what constitutes cover, so feel free to correct if I've got that wrong).

Weighing that, I'd suggest Eanos and Mordik in front, Odno and Aletheia in the middle, and Quarion and Garma on rear guard. Of course, I'm far from married to any of this; it's just my couple of pennies.[/sblock]

As for watching, Quarion is an elf and can watch most of the night with low light vision, and Mordik has darkvision. They should be watching at the darkest hours, while the rest of us can take the first or last watches. Odno's psicrystal also doesn't need to rest and can see in the dark (though with a range of only 40 feet)

[sblock=Watch protocol]Do we want people up in pairs, or single watchmen? I'm thinking pairs, with the lower level characters matched to the higher, perhaps: Eanos/Aletheia, Quarion/Garma, Mordik/Odno? Just a thought[/sblock]

[sblock]ooc: I find that better. The party doesn't have a dedicated tank, so if Quarion is free of enemies enough to summon an hyppogriff or black bear it'd be great[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc: marching order, watch protocol]I'm fine with being in front with Eanos. I think the logic is sound for where everyone else marches - but that's not up to Mordik. As for the "double watchmen" idea: 2 spot rolls are better than one.[/sblock]

Garma also has Scent. The marching order/watch post sounds fine to me. As for summoning a tank, Quarion's bears and whatnot will only last 3 rounds, so it's probably not a great idea to depend on them too much.

(OOC: I always forget to log out of that stupid judge account! Well, Odno's evil twin Obno was struck from the record. I'll be more careful. XP )

ooc: everybody agrees on the suggested marching order/rest cycle:

Marching order:
Eanos and Mordik in front, Odno and Aletheia in the middle, and Quarion and Garma on rear guard.

Watch protocol:
first watch: Eanos/Aletheia
second watch: Quarion/Garma
third watch: Mordik/Odno
This will make for a twelve hour rest to give everybody an eigth hour rest.
