Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

Quarion stands back from the pool and crosses his arms. He is relaxed, leaning slightly on his quarterstaff, confident that the wards which he assumes his brethren created will protect him and his companions. He lets the others do the talking.

The 'Guardian' reacts to Ally's words wint a hint of suprise in it's voice "Tell me Mortal. Are you ignorant of the shrine's past? You are neither here for its demons and devils not for the amulet? I sense no evil in your demeanor or intensions. Why mortal? Why are you here?"

"I am here to learn. I am indeed ignorant of the shrine's past. Can you tell me? I am also here to learn of others' dreams and help them to fulfill those dreams. Would you tell me, guardian, what is your dream? How can I help you break your shackles and fulfill that dream?"

ooc: folks. I'm going to have to set this adventure in pause for a short while while. I can't explain it in full right now but i'll keep you posted. Sorry!

Mordik's eyes go wide at the door's disappearance. His hand rests on the hilt of the silvered sword as his eyes dart from left to right and to the pool of water on the ground. He thinks, Captured! exits, exits exits... as he takes a sidestep closer to Eanos.

ooc: and we're ready to go again!

The guardian answers Aletheia: "To learn you say? And your friends?" It looks at the rest of the party, one by one "Why have you come here?" It pauses when it looks at Mordik "..for battle?"

If I was lookin' fer battle you'd know it by now. I'm here for coin and, Mordik nods to Eanos my allies.

"That's a question that deserves a complex answer" says Odno "Since your view on us and out intentions depend on it. Let it suffice for now that we're interested in the amulet, but that we acnowledge that our data on it is defective and incomplete, and thus could change our intentions."

"Yes, it is as they said, honoured Guardian. Here are my guesses all around:

Quarion's a druid. Assuming you were tasked here by the druids, he's probably going to agree with you on what to do here.

Eanos is a Monk and can get a bit narrowly letter-of-the-law at times. I'd like to hope that if this amulet unleashes a dark evil to consume the world, he would agree with us not to hand it over, but since he already did make a verbal contract with the Lord Graven guy, I'm not too sure.

Odno is pretty sensible when given facts. I think his decision will be based on what you say and what we uncover to be true.

Mordik, as he himself said, is here for coin and allies. So he will go with the general consensus, defaulting to upholding the terms of the informal verbal agreement with Lord Graven, a reasonable default, I think, if there's nothing dangerous about it."

"Knowing that, then, can you tell us more?"

"Well, you seem to be to be hirelings then. Hired to retrive the amulet. You also seem ignorant of it's nature and what dark shadow it could cast over the world when in the wrong hands. I will educate you then but beforehand I warn you that I will not allow you to leave with the amulet.

The amulet of dawn was created long ago by a sect of noble druids as you seem to know. They created the amulet to accieve a number of victories over a plague of demons and devils that threatened to overrun these lands with thier eternal conflicts.
It is sufficient to say that the land you are in now was a foothold in this plane of existence regarding this conflict. A breach in this reality allowed both demons and devils to enter this world. The lands where soaked with thier immortal blood as they battled each other tirelessly and the land began to pay the toll. Thier evil blood corrupted the very soil and all that lived here. Luckily that stain has mostly been removed.

The first victory that was accieved through the power of the amulet was to contain them. You undoubtly noticed the ancient barrier which is powered by the amulet. The barrier prevents any evil from entering of leaving this region.

The next step was to drive back the demons and seal the breach. The druids battled fiercely and they suffered many losses. They where aided in thier battles by the Guardials of Elyssium who also suffered dearly.

After finally acchieving victory on those demons who where already present in this plane they sealed the breach with the amulet.
The tear could not be undone completely but the amulet prevents it from opening once again.
Somewone with the knowledge and power required could open the tear once again if not for the power of the amulet holding it closed.

Many years the druids remained vigilant in these lands. Guarding the amulet and keeping watch on the tear. Unfortunately thier numbers lessened as the passing of time made people forget the threat that once was. When but a handfull of old druids remained they decided to set in place a more permanent measure to prevent the threat from returning, one that would outlast thier mortal years.

First, they broke te amulet into two peices. They knew that such a powerfull objcet could be used for great evil, for it let's the holder wield power over fiends and devils. Such leverage is dangerous when used for the cause of evil.

One piece remained here and the other was hidden in a shrine far away. The magic of the amulet would be weakened slight but this half here would still be suffcient to keep the tear closed and the perimiter intact.
Second, they called upon the old alliance with the Guardinals to watch over the two pieces.

And so i stand before you, the Guardian of the first half, eternal watching within the ancient shrine once built to summon the very evil that holds it at bay today."
