Brutal Weapon Issues

I`m having trouble figuring out how to apply the Brutal property in a couple of cases.

"A brutal weapon’s minimum damage is higher than that of a normal weapon. When rolling the weapon’s damage, reroll any die that displays a value equal to or lower than the brutal value given for the weapon. Reroll the die until the value shown exceeds the weapon’s brutal value, and then use the new value."

Would I re-roll the extra die granted from the Execution Axe`s High Crit Property?

"High Crit (A high crit weapon deals more damage when you score a critical hit with it. A critical hit deals maximum weapon damage and an extra 1[W] at 1st–10th levels, an extra 2[W] at 11th–20th levels, and an extra 3[W] at 21st–30th levels. This extra damage is in addition to any critical damage the weapon supplies if it is a magic weapon.)."

What about the Half-Orc`s Furious Assault power?

"The attack deals 1[W] extra damage if it`s a a weapon attack..."

Since they`re both doing and additional 1[W] I`d expect the answer to be the same for both, but I`m just not sure.

First thought, it applies to [W] die only... but I'm not so sure I can back that up.

My sense is that it applies to all [W] dice though.

The Wizards FAQ is clumsily written, but I think it supports me:

"1. I am wielding a magic weapon with brutal 2. If I roll a critical hit, do I get to re-roll 1s and 2s when I roll for the bonus damage?

No, the brutal weapon trait only applies to rolls for normal weapon damage, signified by [W]. The bonus damage for critical hits does not qualify for this. However, because high crit adds a [W] roll (or 2[W] or 3[W] depending on your level), you would get to re-roll any 1s or 2s."

But I think it`s saying that the extra [W] die from the High Crit property would re roll 1s and 2s, but the extra d6s from the enhancement bonuses would not.

This would suggest that the [W] die from Furious Assault would also re roll 1s and 2s.

First a disclaimer…I am still new to this edition of the game :)

Well in our games I have a Kopesh and our new guy has the execution axe, and we have played it that anything a non magical one could roll is weapon damage.

SO in other words High crit and Furious assault yes, magic crit dice no.

Example: A half orc level 12 with an +3 vicious execution axe attacks with 2 basic attacks, one crits, the second is a hit with Furious Assault
The crit is max +3d12 (non reroll) magic +2d12 high crit (reroll 1 and 2)
The non crit with the race encounter power does 2d12 (both reroll)

I am 85% sure this is the correct reading of it.

You're right in the result, but for the wrong reason. All those things you describe add extra [W] to damage. Brutal applies to all [W] but only [W]. So Deadly Critical doesn't add, because it's a strict 1d10.

But, if you had a magic weapon that had

Critical: +1[W] per plus

Then you -would- apply brutal to that.

Another, more relevant place where the "nonmagical" explanation would fall flat is striker bonus dice: Brutal doesn't apply to Sneak Attack or Hunter's Quarry or the bonus d8 that some Barbarian powers add onto your normal [W]s.
