Building Eberron (Using non-Eberron books)

Agreement agreed upon ;) Guess my game experience isn't so rough as yours, least the players I usually play with don't go out of their way to break things. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt until a situation comes up that breaks my game, then I make a decision about the breaking and figure out what to do then.
I ask them to please break each suspected problem rule if they can without using any questionable tactics or splat I haven't allowed yet. They comply :D

The great thing about my FtF guys, though, is that they tend to agree with me every time I make a decision about brokenness--and not just because I'm the GM. I've had some of them go into other games and suggest the fixes we made to the other GM ahead of time to help curb possible abuses. They break it and then they say 'Alright, let's fix this so it is less powerful and will work better.' Balinor bless them :)

Nice group...

Now if I could only get the player who's LE (nice guy, but LE) in real life to figure out a way to play a good character that doesn't involve "Think about what the smart and obvious thing that I would do in that situation is and make sure not to do that, since it is Lawful Evil" :D

I've a close friend that I've gamed with for years who is NE in real life bending towards LE. His characters are very rarely good, even the ones that are good are rarely anything close to fun to be around. We groan collectively sometimes when he introduces his new character with some off-the-wall or hard to manage personality; he really can't play anything close to a normal personality, often attempts to control the group and so on. It's a bit frustrating. I don't really play with him anymore since he's back in my hometown area and I'm in Montreal now, sort of a relief.

Don't meant to interrupt, but;

Presently, the only LA races available are 'strong' subraces of the PHB races. Is there any intention or has their been any discussion to include others? Perhaps some of the goblinoid races of Droaam?

Our LE guy can do Good characters, but it isn't easy for him. The good thing is that his Evil characters, like himself, are reasonable people. They are reasonable people who are willing to stoop to ultimate evil for their own gain, but they would never turn against allies unless they absolutely had to do it, for instance. They are also generally willing to take risks that involve trafficking with evil outsiders to save everyone--summoning up powerful Devils to get support against a Tana'ri army for one ;)

Plus, the characters can often be comic relief--he's died like four times to this one dragon, much to everyone's amusement :D

He's actually fun to play with--and he tries to not play LE, but his default is to find the most efficient solution that solves the problem to be the 'smart' one :D

That's a great idea--what books are they in?

The goblinoid races of Droaam are mostly core, but they're mentioned specifically in the Player's Guide to Eberron - races that could be appropriate to LEB (due the eventual ECL cap for a starting character at 3) would be goblins (0 HD, +0 LA - but it's worth noting that goblins are generally slaves and very rarely become adventurers), orcs (0 HD, +0 LA, also), half-giants are mentioned, but they're from Races of Destiny so might be omitted just because of that (they're LA +2), and Gnolls are also within the ECL 3 range (2 HD, +1 LA.)

edit: Well, I guess they're more 'monstrous' than 'goblinoid'.

All of those guys except Half-Giants should definitely be perfectly good for PCs--I'm surprised we didn't already allow them actually :)

I meant half-ogres, actually, but the point still stands. My bad on that - gettin' kinda sleepy I guess.
