Actually, I had no idea that the guys at ICE hated him. What's the problem?

He was an editor for some of the Companions (RM splatbooks), and some considered that Monte's work contributed to the game being a mess.

IMO the game was a mess long before, and blaming it on Monte would be like blaming Thsernobyl on the last person touching the controls :\

In any case, I've been a Monte fan since the Planescape days, and have picked up many Malhavoc products. There's some awesome work in there. Unfortunately, I very well may not pick up Ptolus, simply because of the size and cost, but that's not to say I don't think it will be very, very good.

I hope that whatever you do to channel your incredible creative talent will be available for all of us to enjoy.

Given his caliber as a game designer, I would imagine he could have gotten a job in the video game industry as a designer any time he wanted one (a lot of much lesser known designers have done so). So he's probably doing something else than that (since he probably would have done that earlier if he were so inclined).

Perhaps he finally got an advance on a novel he's always wanted to write, and is now writing fiction full time. I'm sure he'll share eventually.

Seriously guys, I'm pretty sure 4e would count as Game Related, and thus not meant.

I wish Monte Cook the best, I hope he enjoys himself in his chosen field. I haven't been able to break into my chosen field yet (that being "lotto winner"), so it's always good when someone finds their place.

Did you see that he said there was a game product he couldn't pass up doing due to its coolness? People are speculating on what that product is.

Well he does say this near the end:

So what does the future hold for me? Well, at least one more game project. Earlier this year I got an offer to work on something so cool that I couldn't say no. But it's not a Malhavoc product, and so I'm not at liberty to announce it here. That comes out next year.

So he does have one more game project and it comes out next year. Could be anything!

But I doubt it's 4E.

Also, hopefully people realize that his announcement and my 4E rumors are two totally separate things. Just a weird coincidence.
