Can Dextyr Keep All These Strikers Alive? (DM: JoeNotCharles, Ozymandias79 Judging)

[sblock=JNC]Not scorning the treasure, JNC! However, Tonk considers it a jerk move to try and start someone on the straight-and-narrow by taking away all their good stuff.

Tonk whispers to Lilf, "Is okay if you keep boot. You sell and give money to aunt. Is good nest egg for business. You give me address of aunt, because now I responsible for you and want to make sure you stay good and maybe help out with money if you need help. Okay?"

Tonk gets the address before he lets him go. (Do I need a new Insight check to make sure he's telling the truth?)[/sblock]
Tonk unties the halfling and gives him a big hug. "Okay! You be good! Here is food and little money! I no have lot. I come check on you sometime, make sure you is okay. Is good to be good!"

---

On the way to joining the party, Tonk picks up the corpse of a Fell Taint and sniffs it. It might be edible...

After joining the party at the warforged's corpse, Tonk asks, "Hey! Is note! Can you read to me?"

As the others gather closer around Dextyr finishes reading the notes and looks up at them with a troubled look on his face.

"Well it appears that Jaffray Applethorpe has put a bounty on our heads. He gave this specific warforged here - Reaper by name, specific instructions as to where to find us and as Lilf over there mentioned, hired those bandits to delay us." Dextyr holds up the first note to show the others.

He then pauses for a second and holds up the second note.

"I am not so bothered by this first note from Applethorpe....it's this second one here from the offices of Blorstrob, Eisenfeld & Grimm. It places a 150,000 gold peice reward for all of our deaths......first come first serve. If there are multiple copies of this bounty around we can very well expect more visitors like these" and with that gives the warforged a nudge with his foot.

Blade stares incredulouslty at Dextyr as he reads the note, wondering what on earth they did that'd be worth 150,000 gp for their deaths. He even considered for a moment how much he could get for taking out the others, but shook his head quickly. A moment of weakness, being amongst humans sometimes rubbed off on the deva.

"What is this Blorstrob, Eisenfeld & Grimm? Are they some kind of crime group or something? I say we go and pay them a visit and see what's happening."

Tristan, who has been staring into the forest in something resembling a daze, suddenly turns around to face the group. "What?" he asks incredulously as Dextyr reads the bounty note. "By Dayna, I knew there was a reason I hated cities. It's because cities are where people like that live."

The elf sighs and lowers his head, and that's when something catches his eye. His previous consternation apparently gone, he crouches next to the warforged and begins examining its sword. "Interesting ... what are you, I wonder?" He draws the sword carefully to inspect the length of the blade and the balance of the weapon.

During his fascination with the sword, he looks up and says, "Yes, I think these Blorstrob, Eisenfeld & Grimm people need to learn what happens when you interfere with divine justice. That is, divine justice interferes with you."
[sblock=OOC]Sorry I haven't been talkative lately. Been a little busy, but that's life.

Anyway, now would probably be a good time to figure out what we're doing with healing surges during our short rest here.

Tonk appears to be fine, but the rest of us could use a little help.
Blade is down 9 hp, surge value is 7. One surge with song of rest bonus gets him to full (and would actually waste 2 hp of healing).
Mikara is down 14, surge value is 6. One majestic word with song of rest bonus (we can still stack those, right?) gets her to full. Without majestic word she gets to 20/24.
Dextyr is down 18, surge value is 7. One majestic word with song of rest bonus gets him to 25/28. Without majestic word he gets to 21/28.
Tristan is down 15, surge value is 7. One majestic word with song of rest bonus gets him to full. Without majestic word he gets to 24/28.

So, there's three of us that could use majestic words. Somehow I doubt Joe will give us enough time for two short rests. :p I think Dex should get one, as he'll still be down hp even with it.

Between Tristan and Mikara it's a bit of a tossup. Mikara really shouldn't be in melee, but we've just seen that sometimes it happens. ;) Tristan does have higher defenses overall and more hp, so maybe Mikara should get the majestic word?

EDIT: I just realized that Dextyr only has 1 majestic word left after the fight. If we do only have time for one short rest, I say that Dex gets it. He needs to stay alive in order to keep us alive ;)

Thoughts, everyone?[/sblock]

OOC: not gonna have time to update before tomorrow, so I'll reveal that you have time for several short rests here. (But if you want to take an extended rest, better post guards...)

[sblock=History 12]
Blorstrob, Eisenfeld & Grimm is a respected law firm in Daunton.

While putting out an explicit bounty is illlegal, asking for "proof of death" is perfectly fine - after all, you could be verifying that a missing person is really dead in order to clear up estate issues. This is probably the loophole BE&G are using to openly handle such a shady transaction. Applethorpe must have paid them a LOT to broker this.

[sblock=OOC]Somehow, Tristan is in the know about the technicalities of Daunton's laws surrounding bounties. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to fluff that at the moment, but you guys can assume he tells you what he knows. ;)

[sblock=JNC]That reminds me - you weren't using the wishlist on Tristan's page as a reference for giving him treasure, were you? Because it's just C&P'ed from Raiyek's sheet and doesn't really have anything Tristan would like ... Though basically any magic fullblade would be great :)

I should really do something about that ...
EDIT: There, I've started Tristan's wishlist. The 'big three' are on there, just need to find time to round it out with some other stuff.[/sblock]

Tonk unties the halfling and hands him something, and he scampers off into the bushes, sobbing in relief.

As the rest of you cluster around the warforged to see the paper Dextyr's holding, you get a closer look at it: it is wearing a leather harness from which hangs a selection of pouches and tools - knives, flint and steel, canteen, a hunting horn, and a coil of leather straps which proves to be leashes for the dogs. Strapped across its back is a giant bastard sword that gleams a strange grey-black. It matches the grey-black metal of its skeletal body.

Wait, that's too big to be a bastard sword - that's a fullblade!

Yes, I was pulling from Tristan's "wishlist", mainly because at the time nobody else had filled one in.

This is a Luckblade +1. (It was gonna be an Oathblade, but I looked closer and realized that's useless to Avengers...)

Having sniffed the Fell Taint, Tonk rubs the creature against the outside of his forearm to determine if there is any sort of reaction (which would indicate the creature is harmful to eat).

Tonk scratches his chin. "Okay. Law person want proof of death, yes? And 150,000 is LOT of money. I think we go to nice Zink-Zink man and get him to agree for to raise us from dead. Then, we kill each other and cut off head and get new halfling friend to collect bounty for us and raise us from dead. Then, we ALL rich! Is good socialism!"

Tonk finds a bit of something caked on his chin. He licks it off his finger. "But is more for to disturb you and me. Okay. See, is much weird and bad that law person know name of us! We only get job today, just little while ago, and nobody know name of us except Zink-Zink man. Zink-Zink man funny, but I no think he sneaky and greedy. He church guy. So, how is that law person know who is we, and where we be, and when we be there?"

"Also, is okay if I take horn and flint and canteen and straps and other stuff? Is no good to waste! Also, also, if you no want rope from log trap or food from cabin, is okay if I take?"

"Is lot of night left! So I think we go to place of law person, yes?"

[sblock=JNC]So, can I assume that Tonk got the address from Lilf?

Also, I posted a wishlist: Here![/sblock]
