If my memory is correct, originally it was going to be a full spin-off series...where this seems to just be a movie. Either way, I'm glad we're getting it. :)

My understanding is the movie will act as a potential pilot for a series. If there is sufficient interest – i.e. numbers of viewers – then it will be picked up as a series. If there is not enough interest, then it will stand a good ScFi Sunday night movie, which is itself almost novel.

If there is a series, the plan is to air only the first half of episodes and make everyone wait a year to see the second half of the episodes.

I think this might be one of the very few situations in where a *rollseye* smiley could be appropriate.
Wouldn't it be easier to just to a to a shorter seasons? Or is there some law that says there can be only one season per year or something like that?

Dunno, looked kind of bland to me. *shrugs* I know it's a prequel and all but if I didn't know it was called Caprica, I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with the BSG universe at all.

Actually, I was making a joke, but I screwed up the joke. I meant, the first half of each individual episode would be shown one year and then the second half of each individual episode would air the following year.

I can see that happen, too. They would probably also sell it on iTunes this way, and there would be a Season 0.5 DVD with the first half of each episode and a Season 1.0 DVD with the second half of each episode. And the Blueray version will have a feature that will let you see each episode as a whole if you bought the other two DVDs.

Yeah, they call that a "backdoor pilot" in Hollywood these days. It's pretty sensible, frankly.
