Given who it looks like it is giving Riri her financial backing, we might just see that particular devil in "Ironheart."

I imagine that this is far, far more likely. Portraying the Chinese as aggressively fielding warships is not going to fly, like, at all, in China. And then "losing" to the Americans? Yeah, no. And, the Japanese "losing" (and I'm using scare quotes here because nobody really loses in the conflict) to the US is going to play much better in China.

I think it would go down fine in China. The Chinese audience likes Marvel films fine (though not as much as their own films) and would not be surprised that a Captain America film would highlight the virtues of the US military. As presented in the film, China/Japan is treated as an equal partner with good diplomatic relations, whose military presents a significant threat but who deals in good faith throughout. Their military forces are generally not defeated in any way by our heroes, except in the interests of preventing war.

I suppose the film could have leaned harder into balance by showing a Chinese equivalent to Sam, a military techno-hero of their own, who is a capable opposite number worthy of respect and able to deal with Sam fairly, but that would really be taking the film into yet another diversion it doesn't really need.

(There's also no character like that in the Marvel canon I can think of off-hand - I'd have personally used a Chinese version of Stingray, who'd be more nautical than aerial as Sam is, but never mind.)

Ironheart actually takes place directly after Wakanda Forever, so before all of the most recent shows and movies.

That was me, but Secret Invasion was filmed before Ironheart, so they could well have already figured out by then that no follow-up Skrull stuff was going to happen.
