Castles and Crusades: A Lion in the Ropes (Full)

I am ready and willing. Please post some scores and gold totals and I will get a background written up for you. It sounds like the game plays a lot like Basic D&D with a twist of D20 and some unique aspects all its own. It sounds fun. Please let me know about any cultural considerations I should take into account for character creation. Greyhawk, right?

Driver- I've never actually played PbP before, so quick question- about how long does it ususally take for one of these games to start up? Right now I'm checking the board almost constantly, but it's certainly beginning to appear that it might not be strictly necessary :)

added houserule 3

Alright looks like we have 8 now. Krug sorry to lose ya, I appreciate your interest.

Heres where we stand roster wise:

Submitted PCs:
Kuld-Paladin
scout989-Ranger

Characters Pending/waiting response:
howandwhy99-Assassin
Sado-fighter
AndrewGable
TroyXavier
mps42
Khraven

I would like to have character concepts, if not some sort of(Hopefully completed) character sheet in by Wed the 30th 9 PM EST. So Im setting that as deadline. If you dont chime in by then, Ill assume you are out. The minimum we need to play is 4 so we should be ok regardless.

I will post stats for those who dont have them to start up a character.

Also here again are the 3 houserules Im implementing. Ill also stick them in the first post of this thread. EDIT: Added a third houserule!

1. Backpacks are considered to have an ENC of 1, which drops to 0 if worn. They can hold a capacity of 8 ENC. Backpacks reduce the total ENC of items in it by 1, so a full backpack would be 7 ENC.

2. Concentration checks by spellcasters, when required, are made using that classes prime attribute. INT for wizards/illusionists, WIS for clerics/druids.

3. Coifs and helms do not provide protection vs blows to the head or any AC bonus. Helms provide the wearer with immunity from critical hits (ie a successful attack on a natural 20). Such attacks are treated as normal damage. Coifs force a successful critical hit (ie a 20) to reroll to confirm the attack was successful. If it fails, the attack just does normal damage.

scout989 I would check in Wednesday. Depending on fine tuning, we may not get going by the weekend.I would subscribe to this thread to see if it updates, but no reason to check it til Wed. Also, I goofed with James' BtH. It should be +1 at level 2 not +2.

Kuld Norgrim looks ok at first glance. His BtH (which C&C's version of BAB) is +1. I notice you have a 2h axe and a shield..is this by design? Also check out the ENC houserule above regarding backpacks..it effects Nogrim I think. Anyway, Ill give him a closer look tonite or tomorrow. Let me know if you have questions.

howandwhy99 Youre right I think about C&C's feel. It is pretty reminescent of Basic. Im putting the module in the world of Greyhawk for purposes of deities and background but knowledge of the setting isnt really required.

Here are your rolls-h&w's stats (3d6=14, 3d6=15, 3d6=12, 3d6=7, 3d6=9, 3d6=17) (nice!)

I believe you expressed interest in assassin. Gold is same for rogue, assassin or bard-h&w's gold (3d4=7) 70 gold

Here are stat rolls for others. I'll wait rolling gold once I know their class choice if they wish to join:

AndrewGable (welcome btw) 3d6=9, 3d6=15, 3d6=14, 3d6=10, 3d6=11, 3d6=9

AndrewGables gold(I think you said cleric?) AGables gold (2d10=13) 130 gold.

TroyXavier TXaviers stats (3d6=8, 3d6=9, 3d6=12, 3d6=13, 3d6=15, 3d6=12)

Khraven Khravens stats (3d6=15, 3d6=11, 3d6=7, 3d6=9, 3d6=6, 3d6=14)

mps42 mps42 stats (3d6=16, 3d6=15, 3d6=12, 3d6=9, 3d6=15, 3d6=12)

One more thing then my spam will cease. Im shooting for a daily update rhythm if we can get. I plan on posting in the evenings around 7 pm which leaves that night and the following day open for responses and PC interaction.

Im not married to this and I certainly wouldnt update in combat if someone hasnt posted. But more posts generally are a good thing given the slow pace of games. The good thing about thos module is that it is location based and should have a good mix of rping, combat, exploration. Its by no means a straight dungeon crawl so PC interaction and activity is needed for this to work.

Oops. Originally I had a one handed battleaxe w/ shield. I changed it but forgot to delete the shield. (I was pretty tired last night):) Ok, thanks and I'll take care of it. I will also write a character background and post it before Wed.

Kuld

Now that I have some extra money, I was wondering if the helm AC and Coif AC stacked? Scale armor comes with a leather coif, however, I would like to upgrade :D

I wouldn't think the AC stacked but you could wear a helm over a coif. Should I just 86 the coif?

Check page 3 of the erratta for explanation of helms. Basically they provide protection vs blows to the head. I dont believe they stack.

This is very much a AD&D thing in my opinion, and I dont know of a situation where youd need protection vs. a blow to the head. What I am leaning toward, since they make you suffer an ENC penalty, is to have helms to provide immunity vs critical hits (such attacks just do normal damage) and for coifs to force a reroll to confirm a successful attack to confirm the crit -as was a similar rule in AD&D.

EDIT: In fact, that is now houserule #3! Thanks for the question..

On a related note (I think covered in either the erratta or cheatsheet) shields dont confer a static AC bonus. Rather small shields provide protection vs 1 attacker, medium vs 2, large vs 3 etc..

I read that and I understood that there was an AC +1 for 1 attacker, 2 attackers etc, so I canned the idea for a 2handed weapon.

Kuld

P.S. I think I'll get the helm. ;)
