this idea's been bumping around in my head for awhile. i'm pretty sure it's been vaguely on most of your minds, too. why is it that the demons and devils have their Orcus, Demogorgon, Anthraxus, Asmodeus, and the rest of those good fellows, and celestials have nothing like that? i mean, solars are pretty damned powerful and all, but it's not the same thing.
so, that's where my idea comes in. how about creating some celestial lords? they don't necessarily have to be lords of the celestials (a few things like that exist already, such as the Faerie Queen of the eladrins, and Talisid and the Five Companions of the guardinals), but rather celestial beings who are very very powerful. they may command legions of lesser celestials (even solars, yes), or their followers may simply be mortals or heavenly spirits. some will be human or humanoid, some will not. they need not correspond with Archons, Eladrins, or any other celestial type, although they may. each one will be an individual, with his/her/its own set of individual powers. anyway, let me get to the point.
you can and will help me on this, and you will have fun doing it! here's what i need you to do. come up with a name, an ethos, and an alignment for a celestial being. we will take a poll, and the most powerful ones will be worked on (first). an ethos is similar to a god's portfolio, but not quite the same thing. here's an example of what i'd like to see: "Phobos, elven Lord of the Dance, NG". that's it, nothing more. when we complete the polls, we will work on more - description, attitude, powers, all that.
if you specify a race, then that lord will be of and probably for that race. if you don't specify a race, then i assume it will be either human or "general" (Orcus and Graz'zt, for example). they can be of any race though, even non-good ones (though you better be prepared to come up with a good explanation of why this being works for good now...). some examples for races: the good old standard PHB races work just fine of course; human, elf, dwarf, halfling, gnome. maybe another good race, such as aarakocra, anuchu, or centaur. there are also good dragons and giants, and fey races to consider. why not lammasu, couatl, or bariaur. it could be of an outsider race, like a genie, ki-rin, baku, or phoenix. hell, it can even be an enhanced animal. and yes, even FLUMPHS are welcome too! "if Joe Bob came up with an elf lord, can i make a different elf lord?" Yes!
now, as far as how the stats will work, we'll do another poll for that. i think we can do them as the demon lords were in BoVD, to make them the like the "official" opposite number of these evil ones. or, we can do them like scott's demon lords, in the ToH. either way, i'll set that up soon and let you decide. and i'd like to consider using one or more of the templates that some of you have come up with. whatever works best, but the end result will definitely be customized to fit our tastes.
now, give me your ideas!
