Silverblade The Ench
First Post
A loooong time ago, I played Everquest, and my absolute fave character I played nealry all the time was magician, a summoner of elementals. I had a blast with him and was well known on the Karana server as" "Redorious the mad magician", hehe.
Anyway, I ended up imagining this guy as a D&D character and writing him into an adventure or two as an NPC.
I used the new Summoner rules and the character builder ot sort him out, so hope ya like, and shows what ye can do as a summoner in 4th ed
REDORIOUS THE SUMMONER, SLAYER OF UNDEAD
Mannerismsand appearance:
6'4", 240lbs, stout-muscular build, copper-brown skin, bald, salt & pepper goatee and moustache, heavy scarring on right side of head. Many people would take him for an elderly warrior or the like from his size.
Wears a platinum and aquamarine studded jewellery item on right side of head around upper right eye and temple which hides some of the scarring (and is a magic item, Circlet of Rpaid Casting, designed ot help ease the pain as well from the scars).
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Seemingly grim and dour, he is actually very concerned and caring, but doesn't waste his words. Absolutely no tolerance for evil necromancers, most undead, Orcus & his minions, treacherous people, fiends and fiend worshippers, or abuse of the defenceless. Very, very determined and tough.
His family are wealthy farmers, roughly the equivalent of a "knightly" family (in the old sense of the word), wealthy by standards of farmers, that is. A series of hardships forced harsh times upon them, but they survived. Redorious worked hard on the farm as a lad, hence his physique, but he was also a scholar very interested in the arcane. He was offered the chance to train with a wizard, who'd even pay his family for the privelege and so he left for his apprenticeship...
Alas, the wizard was trecherous, in league with fell forces and abused Redorious, eventually planning to use him to fuel a ceremony of lichdom! Fortunately, a group of adventurers stormed his lair, killing the necromancer and freeing Redorious. The adventurers were all orcs, half-orcs and a hobgoblin, and he spent many years there after in their company, until they were mostly butchered by a xenophobic band of bravos in the pay of an evil duke, an Orcus worshipper. Redorious, his remaining friend and new allies executed the Duke 3 years later.
Very well versed in the ways of non-Humans, he has extensive contacts with orcs, goblin and elemental peoples, and has often served as an emissary or ambassador, or helper of such.
Currently, he works on his academy, where he can assure students who pass his standards of a (relatively) safe, moral grounding in the magical arts. The local town knows well his reputation, despite his being a summoner and appreciate him. Redorious is well versed in the undead, fiends and the Planes, he likes elementals and humanoids.
He favours dark red or aquamarine clothing.

a) I always roll for stats, I HATE point builds
b) He's designed to be very physically tough, lots of surges so he can summon many critters, and have good defences, which also helps his summoned beasties.
So he has Toughness, Durable, Paragon Defences feats.
belt of VIgor adds +2hp to healing surge value (which affects how many hit points his summons have).
Summmners tome +4 can boost summons opportunity attack damage.
Circlet of Rapid Casting can let him (Daily) use a minor action arcane utility as a free action, such as Enduring Summons to heal a summoned critter.
Venegeful Summoner means that when one of his summons are killed, adjacent enemies automatically take 2d10+5 damage
this is the stats for his highest level summons:
c) He hates and fights undead, so he has Bone RIng of Better Fortune (1/2 necrotic damage, and daily ignore an effect or take no damage form necrotic attack) and his cloth amrour has 10 necrotic resistance.
"Inescapable Force" feat helps when fighting spectral/ghost type undead.
d) He's definately a a "controller"
what ya think?
