On April 20th, the 120-page softcover playtest book for the new Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game by Matt Forbeck will be available to purchase for $9.99; the final game is due to be released next year, in 2023.

Marvel has revealed some of the playtest book, in which you use the new d616 system and profiles for Spider-Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Wolverine and more, in an introductory scenario called Enter: Hydra. The scenario involves a hostage situation at the Howard & Maria Stark Center for Galactic History.

The d616 system uses three d6s. Designer Matt Forbeck says "If you get a 1 on the Marvel die, you get a fantastic result and something amazing happens. If you get 6 on both of the other dice—or a 6-1-6 result—that’s an ultimate fantastic roll, which is even better."

The words MARVEL contains initials for the game's six ability scores -- Might, Agility, Resilience, Vigilance, Ego, and Logic. Each character has an archetype, such as a striker or blaster, and the archetype combines with the abilities to give bigger attack rolls.

Here's a quick look at Spider-Man! For reference a normal human stat is between -4 and +4.

Update 1.2 for the playtest is now available, plus a character profile for Shang-Chi. Lots of changes in this one for the final version of the game. No mention of the feedback stage being over, so there should be one more update before the rules have to go off to the printer for the June 2023 release.

Of course, people who think someone showing an interest in something, or just pointing out facts, is actually defending or shilling for the person or company, shouldn't bother.

There's a summary of changes at the article linked from here:

Is the update free for people who already own it?

The update file is available directly on the Marvel sites linked above for anyone to read/download for free, whether you own the physical playtest book or not. The various digital sites where it could be bought should be updated already, or will be updated soon. Of course, with the digital versions, the new rules replace the old rules, so you can't look at them side by side and see the differences. This is why I bought a physical copy and a copy on Demiplane, so I could always have the original version for comparisons.

Looks like a mixture of improvements and weird changes no-one was asking for (5' squares for movement what? This is a superhero RPG, not D&D!), but it seems like whilst it addresses some more superficial concerns, it doesn't really get to the heart of the problems with this RPG (based on the summary, anyway).
