CoC: Delta Green. I need some info

(Nothing against the CoC system per se; I'm just keen to see people migrating their game systems to "one platform". D20 is open source and availible to all so I'd like to encourage that over continuing to have lots of proprietary formats. Besides its very close to DnD, which is very widely played and familiar to most people).

Feh. IMO CoC d20 is just one big debacle. When it was released it was well received (seemingly by everyone except the BRP diehards), and then mis-managed into obscurity. The system is no longer in print or supported by Chaosium. Even Pulp Cthulhu -the d20 "setting" is going to be released BRP only. Since the game was produced under license from Chaosium all the rules are closed content, which means if Chaosium wants to kill CoC d20, then it's dead.

As for the d20 vs. proprietary system argument - well that a whole other can of worms. Personally, while I enjoy d20, I like to see "house" systems continue to flourish 'cause there are some real good game systems out there that are fun to play and drive their games better than d20 could.

Very sadly, that's true. Then again, if it wasn't for d20 CoC, I probably wouldn't have played CoC half as much as I have, and I still have no problem using those rules whenever I want to get a group together to play. And the d20 CoC rulebook is, in itself, one of the best game books I've ever seen bar none.

I do think the game benefits tremendously from having something like Ken Hood's Grim-N-Gritty Hit Points overlayed on top of it, though. Assuming that your characters are advancing in level, anyway.

Uh, yeah--the original post asked for spoilers, didn't it?
Does one Keeper's request for history (which doesn't necessarily mean "spoiler") indicate that it's perfectly OK to give out plot points that could affect an entire campaign? The MJ-12 situation--which is the crux of the US Delta Green campaign--is based around the deception surrounding the Greys. Players of a DG campaign who read this thread will know the truth behind the deception.

How is that NOT a spoiler?

I'm just saying that a spoiler warning would have been appropriate in that situation because it's a major plot device.

I have to say, Josh--despite the fact that I respect your brain/writing ability/DMing skill, at times you really come across as someone who enjoys arguing just to knock people down. (Which comes across as just being bitchy.) Not always, but sometimes.

Actually, if you're in that situation, I'd say it's your responsibility to avoid threads that ask "can someone summarize the history of Delta Green for me?"

Yes, it is. I think Dagger75 asking for "the history of Delta Green" in the first post was sufficient spoiler warning, myself though.

Oh, I never want to knock someone down. I am bitchy and argumentative, though. :) But not because I want to knock anyone down. My only point is, if the initial post says, "can someone tell me what's going on in Delta Green," and you've read the whole thread, and then complain that you got spoiled--I mean, no kidding, right? Of course you got spoiled.

I have always wanted to run a Delta Green game and about half way through the campaign have Great Cthulhu rise from R'lyeh and then turn the game into a post apocalyptic End Time game. Just having the PC's trying to survive through the return of the Old One's would be a blast.

LOL, well, I have to respect someone who can admit that they're bitchy. (I can be the same myself at times.) Not being fond of arguing, I'd prefer to call "truce" and hug & make up. Like I said, I always enjoy reading your posts, Josh (except when I perceive you're bashing someone, lol) so I'd rather not get into a war and have you not reply to my questions about D&D combined with conspiracy/horror... (referencing a post I made several months ago)

Let me also be clear--I've owned DG & DG:C since they were published, so I'm not saying I was spoiled... I harbor no ill will toward Vorpal & Rackhir, I was just lookin' out for the players.

Whatever. I guess I was grouchy that day. Moving on.

me = uber-heart Delta Green

That's the beauty of CoC, though: if you players do already know the secret, you can always change the secret. ;)

Sounds like fun.

Of course, the challenge is coming up with something as cool which is much easier said than done. For my own DG themed game, I replaced the Mi-Go with something that was more like the slake-moths of Perdido Street Station, for instance, and gave them a portal buried under the ice of Antarctica (seems like a nice vacation spot from someone from Yuggoth--which was relatively newly discovered planetoid Sedna in my game.)

But I still had the idea of the grays reporting to some other, more sinister creature.
