[CoC-DnD3e-FR] Dead of Winter

Looking directly in the Commander's eyes, Ezra begins to relate his tale, "Yes, sir. I've come to report an infestation of undead in the newly constructed temple to Ilmater, his name be praised. The priestess in charge was unable to determine the exact amount of the creatures, but was able to estimate that the number is large. Also on the way here I ran into a group of people heading to the temple themselves, who mentioned an encounter with some sort of rat-thing. Would that creature you study be of the same type? Is there anything you can do to assist? I'm of the mind to try and enlist help to rectify this terrible circumstance. Can you spare any men to assist?"

Ezra awaits a reply from the Guard Commander and attempts to peer about the room, and listen in on any conversations.

Daan walked up to the priestess. "What is the choice Vadim faces, milady? I am not sure I understand."

OOC: Daan will use Sense Motive to try to determine whether the priestess has good intentions. Her statements are somewhat puzzling.

Prologue (Move 15)

30 Flamerule 1372 DR, Caerrhen, Damara-Impiltur border
It is currently unseasonably warm and uncomfortable in northwestern Impiltur, with uncharacteristically high humidity. There is no noticeable wind.

Yanis Princetonson, Approximately 1030 hours
After spending roughly a half-hour sifting through the books, you and Karok manage to each find a volume written in runes that vaguely resemble the runes on the pendant. The two volumes are bound in black leather, but are otherwise non-descript. The tongue is in no language you've ever seen before now, excepting the pendant. It's at this time that you hear some thumping around the outside of the house and some muffled voices.

Sir Zichard Danilk, Approximately 1115 hours
You've not really seen any indication of any kind of town guard, but surely someone has some knowledge of one. From where you are, you can see a small humanoid standing outside the temple of Ilmater, having an animated conversation with something that you can't quite see from where you are.

Korbi Gobknocker, Approximately 1115 hours
Goblin looks up at you with sleepy eyes. Big Petal? Hmm. He closes his eyes again, quietly munching on some rat meat. Well, it ran directly past me and off towards the other side of town. I think it may have ended up somewhere off in those trees. He semi-nods off towards the southeastern portion of town. Wake me when you find more rats... Yawning, he rolls over onto his back and stretches out, catching the sun full on to his stomach.

As you look at the southeastern portion of town, you can see a tall man guiding a horse and dragging a humanoid shape on the ground exiting from what looks to be a very poorly kept apple orchard.

Ezra Geonora, Approximately 1315 hours
He nods his head thoughtfully. "Yes, well, there has been an infestation of these rat-things of late. The one you see here attacked a man, killing him if I recall correctly, earlier today. There have also been other incidents as well. Now, undead in the temple." He sighs. "Well, yes, this is a problem. I'll tell you what, head back to the temple, wait there for me, I'm going to send some of my best men back to you within the hour. We'll get to the bottom of this. Ilmater be praised, and may the Yellow Rose be free of thorns (I hope I do not assume too much, but you seemed to be one of the brothers). Anyhow, all my best will be yours shortly." Turning away from you, he makes it clear that this conversation is over.

Daan, Approximately 1315 hours
OOC: Just so you know, I have made the Sense Motive check, but I won't be posting the result of it. I think I did before for perivas/Yanis, but I've been thinking about it, and I think that sort of transparency is bad (by seeing the result, you get too good an idea if your gut instinct is correct or not).

The Lady Assa radiates good will and care, you're certain that she has nothing but the best of intentions. She wrinkles her brow as she hears your question. "Well, his choice is to either have Vynchens raised or not. To put it in gross terms," she frowns at the concept, "it's a question of money or service. Vynchens is not of the faith of Ilmater, nor is Vadim, and since Vadim is the petitioner...I cannot exploit my ties to the Crying God, no matter how much I'd like to do so. If Vynchens were not so far gone, if he were alive, then I could help with less concern for the earthly. In some ways, Vynchens might be the most fortunate of all of us...happy are those who can break free of this mortal coil and all the struggles that accompany it."

OOC for drs and Argent: Collapsing timelines just so you're aware. Feel free to have any conversations between each other that you want, either over e-mail or, so long as they're IC, in this thread.

OOC for everyone: FYI, as an extension of what I've done with Daan's Sense Motive check, the following skill checks will also be hidden from your view from now on: Hide, Search, Spot, Listen, Diplomacy, Bluff, Move Silently, and Rope Use. Just so you know. Otherwise, all checks will be made transparently. At certain times, I may make things transparent (although it'll be fairly obvious when a bluff or diplomacy check suceeds). Also, thanks for dealing with my sporadic schedule; I hope this'll settle down soon. I have things that could happen that might be really fun, and I'd really like to see your reactions to them.

Korbi move 15

Korbi runs up to the man on the horse.
"Excuse me good sir knight, Did you see a Were Rat run this way? My familar saw it and told me the direction it ran."

"Hopefully you talk of the same rat creature I have just slain, why such creatures are left by the citizenry to roam the town is a bloody mystery to me!" Dropping the reins of his horse Zichard uses both his hands to pull the Were Rat into the gnomes view. Zichard lets a couple seconds of silence pass as he looks the gnome over "I pardon my previous tone sir, I am unaccustomed to this heat, and you are most probably not from this township, it is nay your fault, if anyone's it is mine" Zichard says, trying to cover up his previous rage. Wiping the sweat from his face he continues "I am in need of assistance, I need to locate the town guard, can you help me?"

Daan nodded. "Yes lady, I understand. Tell me, what is the origin of this temple? It is indeed a large and magnificent structure, how did it come to be here? "

"I am sorry but I'm just in this town a few moments myself. I'm Korbi Gobknocker. Mage and Alchemist. May I ask your names?"
Korbi extends is hand to the paladin.

Zichard's face lightens up, "Yes my name is Zichard Danilk, I am a Guardian of Torm, chivalric branch Arm Barrister.
Though like I said I am in need to locate the town guard, and warn them of this rat thing."

Yanis takes the two volumes and slips them into his backpack. He then motions for Karok to remain quiet and to look for a place to hide. Yanis listens carefully for the sounds of the men outside to determine the direction of their approach. He also attempts to evaluate quickly possible alternate exits beside the way they came in (i.e., windows and doors).
