console vs. computer

What do you guys think? if they were to do another D&D game, would you want it for the computer or one of the consoles? You see, I got Neverwinter nights, played through it, and it felt lacking. After looking at an advertisement for an upcoming game for the consoles. I was hoping for something more than what they plan on putting out (D&D Heroes or something like that). I was wondering what you guys would like to see. I was hoping for better implementation of the caster's spells, and what not. I am really hoping for being able to fly, clime walls, jump, and more.
Ya, ya, I know this is a wish list. You see, many of the platformer games, like mario 64, both zelda games, and much more, easily were able to implement jumping, flying, and stuff. But I would like to be able to cast and stuff aswell while flying. They didn't put any of this into NWN. So, what would you like?
Don't forget you wish list!:D

After playing several computer & console games, I would have to say that I enjoy the console rpgs. However, both of them pale in comparision with pen & paper rpg ;)

PC Baby!

Well, I for one would much rather have a computer version (done right & proper mind you :D ). But I agree with ya Pen & Paper version is much better!

but what if you could do anything you wanted to make the game a perfect clone (as in, nothing left out, and hopefully we could toss in some of the supplements) of pnp? would you rather have it on a console or computer?

PC every time. Consoles always feel clumsy in comparison, and you really want the keyboard/mouse combo for a lot of RPGs.

No comparison

There is simply no possible comparison (if your talking perfect clone) the raw power & pure speed will be in the PC favor for a very long time to come if not until some other super powerful thing comes to replace the PC (if that ever happens).

Now, playing Diablo or Civ on the Console is pretty awkward and a little slower than the PC.

Hmm... Ya, I suppose you guys are right. The only reason I mentioned consoles is because they (especially the newer consoles) generally can keep up with some of todays game engines. Besides, I never did like having a laggy comp game just because I didn't have the best of everything for my computer. With consoles, they have set perameters. They could even put it on multiple discs, but that isn't the problem. Besides, I don't have a controller for my computer. I think they could easily do something like this for the Gamecube, did you check out the controller? I am sure you have. Well, both sides have their pluses and minuses. Well, keep on posting!

PC over console anyday. Part of the greatness of NWN and PC games in general is the online factor. Sure the consoles are starting to get their internet contraptions out on the market, but you still need an existing connection to use them I think...so why bother? And how can you create a module for a console game and upload it for all to enjoy? Or download and install the latest mod?

Sounds like your real issue is the game format. Thats my main beef with it too. Why, oh why, did it have to be a top-down view ala 'Diablo' ?!?! This game needed to be fully 3D first person/third person like Everquest or Morrowind. It drives me CRAZY that i can't push the mouse and look up at the sky. I feel like I'm looking down into a sandbox filled with little armymen.

In firstperson 3d games you can jump. You can climb. And in the fancier ones, yes you can indeed fly. And THAT is why I merely like NWN. I don't love it.

And agreed...it still doesn't beat pnp.

I grew up on console systems (anyone remember the NES?) I played that to death...reminds me I should get another one.

But for the more realistic stuff a PC is better.

Consoles are the hands-down champion for non-D&D-like fantasy RPGs. I think some of you might have heard of a little series called Final Fantasy ;)

That being said, any game that requires character management on the level of D&D PnP (like NWN, BG, even Morrowind and Fallout and such) HAS to be on the PC. It feels too odd with a console controller; you need the hotkeys and all the keyboard and mouse commands.

Morrowind totally sucks on the XBox if you've played the PC version!
