conversions of gods

Those sound like good HD rules. I'm going to edit the minor god template to reflect them.

I also think there could be at least three or four templates to choose from for converting base creatures to new deities, so that there is some variety in the results.

brought my DDG and monster mythology with me to work today. :D gonna start looking up those draconic gods when i get some time.

I'm surprised I didn't see this thread earlier. I already started (and completed many) conversion for a lot of the gods in Monster Mythology. There were a couple of issues I had with the D&Dg format with regard to nonhuman deities.

The most notable is that racial adjustments were applied to a divine array for the abilities with the demihuman and goblinoid deities (thus, Corellon had a +2 Dex, -2 Con applied to an array of 24, 24, 24, 25, 28, 35) but for more "monstrous" creatures, the standard array was either not used (in the case of Bahamut) or used without applying racial adjustments (in the cases of Surtur and Thrym).

Bahamut was simply a gold advanced three to four categories with regards to abilities and HD. In my conversions, I worked up 3 possible models for each draconic deity, with the D&Dg base, another wherein I applied racial adjustments to a divine array, and another, for epic levels, where I delineated virtual age categories dependent on CR.

Actually, I created an Epic variant for every deity. So far I have converted Titania, Stronmaus, and most of the other pantheonic leaders. I also needed to create several classes and PrCs, one for each chapter. This included CG aligned druids and non-LG "paladins" or champions.

Boz: Cool, I can give you a few ideas for new draconic gods, if you'd like. Such as an CG draconic deity of youtful exuberance (I think that's the word...).

Also In regards to draconic gods, this is a rule I use although it is not official.

House Rule Warning!!!!

Draconic Deities that are not ascendant mortals have an innate divine rank they cannot lose under any surcomstances. For example: Bahamut, Falazure, Sardior, and Tiamat all have an innate divine rank of 10, as they are essentially siblings (in my campaign anyways.) and the offspring of Io (who by the way has an innate divine rank of 25 in my campaign. Don't mess with the swallower of shades.) Other draconic deities have an innate divine rank of between 5 and 15 depending on the particular aspect of 'draconicness' they represent... :D

This can of course be extrapolated unto other race specific gods that are not ascendant mortals.

I want to repeat the idea that a variety of templates should be used in creating deities, so that we have some interesting differences, even if a set of deities was all based on the same creature. For example, a whole pantheon of kobold gods would be redundant and boring if all generated by the same template/method.

folks, here's what we will do to keep it simple. we'll discuss each god one at a time (or in VERY small groups, if they're tightly related) and that way we can work together on the ideas that work the best for everyone. my next post should be a good springboard to getting things in order. what i shall do is come up with a good "sketch" of what we're working on, then you all can discuss it (in a similar matter to the creatures-by-poll, but i'll be taking a much more active roll in this). if you want to use a template to generate stats, fine. if you have another system, fine as well. we will compare and contrast between different ideas, as well as gods published in DDG 3E. when we have a finalized version, i'll see what i can do about getting it posted in the creature catalog somewhere, maybe in the feind factory. :)

Monster Mythology

Monster Mythology

This book was the definitive monster deity book of 2E, and in my opinion, as yet unequalled in that respect. Previously, a scant few of these beings were featured in the 1E Deities and Demigods and a number of them were in Dragon magazine (and I think Unearthed Arcana?). Most of them later received treatment in one or more Planescape books. Can you think of what sources you may have seen these gods in, to help build a reference bibliography that we can go on?

Just so you know, these have already been covered. Bahamut, Corellon Larethian, Garl Glittergold, Gruumsh, Kurtulmak, Lolth, Moradin, Tiamat, and Yondalla are all in the new Dieties and Demigods. Demogorgon, Juiblex, and Yeenoghu, now and once again demon lords, are in the Book of Vile Darkness. Bahamut and Kostchtchie, also demon lords, are covered in the Tome of Horrors. So, that certainly leaves a lot of ground to cover!

As I look things over I will find more gods to convert, including Sardior and other beings from Dragon magazine.

maglubiyet

sardior

other suggestions will follow those. ;)

I think you should do a deific conversion of Erica's Demodragon, as the draconic pantheon needs a good solid CE deitiy.

As for the deities on the large list, several of them can be found in Faiths and Avatars if I'm not mistaken (don't have the book, as I don't play in the FR, although I do have the FRCS, Magic of Faerun, Lords of Darkness, and Monsters of Faerun, but that's because they contain lots of information that is easy to 'co-op' so the speak, like the shades, dracoliches, and the ever popular Fey'ri ;) ). I think Moonbow, and the drow gods are among the deities covered in that book.

That's all for now ;)

Later,

I'd like to see the kobolds' Kurtulmak after you convert the goblin god. I haven't found any official 3e conversion yet, though there could be one out there.

(Trivia: "ucuz kurtulmak" is a Turkish phrase for "escape" or "get off without price or penalty", or more cynically, "weasel out" )

I wish I could provide original sources for these deities you list, but I took a long hiatus during 2e because I thought the game was getting kind of Smurfy.
