Converting Epic Level Creatures

Let me see what I think we have here:

1) DR X/epic and immunity to poison with X big (well, it says "immunity to normal weapons" but I think epic is more sensible than magic for the DR)

Yes, something like 25/epic. Probably should give it a bunch of other immunities (criticals, stun, paralysis, et cetera) just so it isn't a pushover. :p

2) plane shift, as standard or immediate?

With its casting ability can't it simply use a quickened plane shift or quickened greater teleport if it wants to get somewhere else in a hurry?

Although I'd rather give it those as at-will Spell-Like Abilities, together with the "usual suspects" like true seeing.

3) reflect an attack as an immediate action. Does it take damage from the original attack? It looks like it from the original.

It does seem to take the damage, in which case we should try to find a different name than "reflect", since D&D spell reflection doesn't harm the target. Duplicate Attack? Rebound Attack?

Yes, I like those other immunities, though the original specifies "no other special defenses."

Give them those as SLAs at will. I'm kind of leaning toward immediate action, though perhaps with a limited number of times per day if we do that. We also need to spell out that the whole "cluster" of neck tubes shifts.

Rebound Attack sounds nice.

Hold on, it's supposedly on par with a Greater Deity, right?

That means we could simply give it the standard immunities from the Divine Powers SRD?

Immunities: A draedan is immune to polymorphing, petrification, or any other attack that alters its form. Any shape-altering powers the deity might have work normally on itself. It is immune to mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). They can not be affected by effects that imprison or banish them. Such effects include banishment, binding, dimensional anchor, dismissal, imprisonment, repulsion, soul bind, temporal stasis, trap the soul, and turning and rebuking.

A draeden is not subject to energy drain, ability drain, or ability damage, disease and poison, stunning, sleep, paralysis, and death effects. A draeden is also immune to damage from electricity, cold, acid, and disintegration.

I don't follow you about the shifting.

Rebound Attack sounds nice.

It's the best-sounding of the options I've come up with so far.

Ahhh, good old 3.X standardization trumping exception-based design. :p Let's go for those immunities.

About plane shift, etc, what I mean is this: we are providing stats for a single tube-segment of a draeden, which is really a cluster of these things. The special ability needs to specify that the whole draeden (ie, the cluster of tube-segments) shifts all at once.

Is there an attack reflection or rebounding ability we can crib from? It seems vaguely familiar.

Agreed.

Weren't we talking about allowing for an encounter with a single tube-segment? That suggests a Draedan can plane-shift one of its mouths into another plane while the rest of it remains... elsewhere.

I'm sure there's a precedent or two, but I'm feeling too lazy to look it up. :p

We're allowing for an encounter with a single segment to account for the fact that the ends of the different tubes can be quite far apart from each other. But we weren't imagining that the body of the draeden would fly apart.

Hmmm. Let's just try this:

Rebound Attack (Su): Whenever a draeden takes damage of any kind (hit point, ability damage or drain, loss of spells or psionic power points) from a magical or psionic attack, it can take an immediate action to reproduce that effect against its attacker. The attacker takes the same damage or effect that the draeden takes (and is allowed the appropriate save at the same DC to reduce or negate the damage).

What do you think?

It can reflect any "power", which means it can reflect non-damaging special attacks, such as a maze or trap the soul spell.

So I'd suggest something like "whenever a draeden is affected by any weapon, spell or special attack". The bit about it affecting "powers" might mean that it doesn't work against ordinary weapon attacks, but I'd like to assume it does.

The attacker takes the same damage or effect that the draeden takes. If the power or attack allows a save, the attacker may attempt the save at the same DC allowed to the draeden.

That looks fine to me.
