D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Level 3: Ranger Lord
Whenever you make a Charisma roll, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1).
Whenever you make a Dexterity roll, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Strength modifier (minimum of +1).

Possible for a subclass

Doesn't not work, but I'd sooner it not be a subclass ability at all. And my personal homebrew levelling table is already a bit packed.
If I was considering where it (or something like it) could go for the 5E Ranger... I guess it could swap out Canny in Deft Explorer. Or be an additional option you can choose with Deft Explorer, if using the original UA set-up. "Pick one of these at 1st, 6th and 10th level", like.

i like the expertise in canny but the extra languages are a bit meh, i might replace them with tool proficiencies, especially in '24 given tools seem to have more use.

See I'm biased because I like the idea of Ranger just getting an actual Expertise feature. Somewhere between Rogues and Bards. Got every food group for experts then, non-caster, half-caster, full caster. I forget if they got one in 2024.
