But of course the list leaves out lots of candidates:
Conan
Aragorn
The Thin Man

Admittedly they're all from literary sources originally, but so is Bond.

In the end I voted for 007 though.

I originally voted for Dirty Harry Callahan, but much of the discussion has given me pause...
yeah, Dr. Jones (I still think Ford could pull another one off);
If we're not limited to sequels, Bogart's Sam Spade & Philip Marlowe do nicely ("The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter.").

I am saddened to not be the one to mention Bogart first. I shall now go watch the Maltese Falcon and Casablanca.

Bogart was the actor, the two very cool characters were different. I agree that Rick Blaine may be the very coolest character ever. Someone else had suggested Jack Burton, another cool character but none of these were in more than one movie so did not fit the parameter of the poll.

Y'know, I knew that, templetroll. The fact that Bogart played different characters has nothing to do with the fact that I'm sad not to have been the first to mention him and all his cool characters.

And my vote goes to Rick Blaine.

Eastwood's no namers are the best I tell you, the best and you are a fool of a Took if you don't realize it.

My vote too. I just caught the end of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and The Man with No Name is definitely cool. He may, dare I say it, become more cool with each passing film, culminating in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly".

If ya have Eastwood how in the world could you leave out the Duke?

Transporting was terrific!
Chow Yun Fat the jumpin-9mm-dual-firing mojo is also high on the list for me.

:confused:

For a cool character that appeared in one movie, I agree with you. The poll was for the same cool character appearing in more than one movie. :cool:
