creating Skill bonus items + times per day ?

Is it valid to create a(wonderous) skill bonus item and the cut the cost by using charges per day ?
Say for instance, i wont be making alot of knowledge arcana rolls so make a +x knowledge arcana wonderous item and can then cut the cost to 1/5th by only using once per day ?

fyi 3.0 pricing
ex: +10 knowledge(arcane) , usable once per day. 10^2 * 20 = 2000, 2000/5 = 400, so cost to create is only 200 gp ?

Or is this just very cheesy?

Don't skill bonus items need to be use-activated? Otherwise, they're not skill bonus items. You can make it charged, but then how long does the charge last? You'll need a whole new pricing scheme to handle that. I'd say that making it a charge item multiplies the cost by 5. :p

In any event, yes, it's cheesy. Trying to warp the item creation GUIDELINES to cheese out items is by definition cheesy. Whatever you do, don't start creating bonuses named after fruit just to get around the stacking issue, or trying to get a discount because your item doesn't work from 5:50PM to 5:51PM. :D

I'm only lvl 5 cleric and just trying to get the most out of my alloted 10k gp, can't afford anything silly :)

Probably allowable by the rules, but the thing to remember is a limitation per day is very often not a limitation at all. Having a combat spell 1/day for example, is not limit if you only have 1 combat per day. Or having a 1/day skill is no limit if there's only one trap per day, or one knowledge check per day.

Also had another thought, could this be done with say, a +1 dagger, if you assume you'll only be throwing it once a day, then you could get... 5 +1 daggers/once a day for the price of +1 dagger? Or is that right out?

That would'nt be a limitation, though, would it? If you cost it at 1/day and then only use it at 1/day, then there's no limitation, so the price should reflect that, i.e. it should be full price.

You can do the same thing with wands, for example, where you get 50 charges, at 1 charge per day limitation, for something crazy cheep. But, if you only use the wand 1/day, it's not a limitation. Or you could do it with weapons, saying that a Keen Longsword +1 has 50 charges of Keen. The aim is to avoid costing things are if they're limited while no limitation exists.

Well it would be as much of a limitation as the DM allows it to be. If you're only getting in one fight a day then it would be reasonable to only make an item thats used once a day. Of course the first time you're in 2 or 3 fights in a day you're in big trouble when all of your one-trick items are expended, and indeed as a DM I would certainly do that to any players who relied on 1 use a day items.
