Creature by Poll General Discussion (let's talk about vermin alignment...)

So, do you have any specific comments regarding the way I "moderated" the thread series? Ideas to make it better (including "Get rid of Otu!" )? Anything else?

Personally, I think you did quite well, certainly a lot better than I would have.

Just one comment, next time, instead of taking a creature from the old original thread, let's create one from scratch. In other words, start by determining(sp?) the creature type, then HD, alignment and so on in that order

It's more fun that way

Might indeed be better. Using the original poll results would result in some "minor" oddities, as BOZ certainly can attest.

I'm thinking about splitting the name poll into descriptive name/own name for those creatures where it makes sense (such as the moss gnome/sylvwid). Sounds good or bad?

To aid in the decision, this would be the plan for the next CbPs if we use BOZ's first series of threads (although modified by me somewhat):


5. Colossal NG (Giant/Humanoid/MHumanoid)/Construct/Dragon/Undead, 20 +
6. Fine CG/CE/LN (Giant/Humanoid/MHumanoid)/Construct/Dragon/Undead, 1 - 3
7. Gargantuan CG/CE/LN (Giant/Humanoid/MHumanoid)/Construct/Dragon/Undead, 14 - 16
8. Tiny/Diminutive CG/CE/LN Ooze, 17 - 19 HD
9. Tiny/Diminutive LG (Giant/Humanoid/MHumanoid)/Construct/Dragon/Undead, 5 - 7 HD
10. Medium-Size LE Animal/Vermin, 11 - 13 HD (Alignment determines rough direction of abilities)

As I said earlier, I think it would be better if we simply started over from scratch, beginning by choosing one of the following creature types in a poll:

Aberration
Construct
Dragon
Elemental
Fey
Giant
Humanoid
Magical Beast
Monstrous Humanoid
Ooze
Outsider
Plant
Undead
or
Vermin

of course, we could eliminate Fey from the list to prevent us from doing the same creaturetype twice in a row, and so for the next time after that simply replace the creature type we created with what we had removed in the first place (in this case Fey).

And yes, I know animal is not on that list, it's deliberate.

Does my suggestion make sense?

i agree. start fresh... that stuff was from like, what, a year ago? even if i was going to start my own CBP again i would want to use new results...
