$6.6 million and counting, with over 49,000 backers. They raised over $326,000 with just shy of 2500 individual small pledges yesterday. Slowing down, but the train is still moving. Backer kit has a project of ~12.8 million, with a spread of $6.6 million (if nobody more pledges) up to $20.7 million.

There's an article on Variety where they apparently actually interviewed Travis and Sam: LINK

We were talking about how big the CR fandom was. Here's some stats on the stream:
Crticial Role knew they had a big and engaged fanbase but the team didn’t expect the flood of pledges that has poured in. On Twitch, between 30,000-40,000 people typically watch live with another 150,000 views on-demand, according to Willingham. The episodes on YouTube typically hit around 250,000 views in the first 24 hours. All told, each episode garners around 1 million views.

And for those who wonder if CR is getting rich off this:
Riegel said the Critical Role members aren’t trying to enrich themselves from project. The actors and animators who work on the series will receive SAG and Animation Guild pay scale. “We’re not raiding the coffers,” Riegel said.

----

As I was reading this I had the thought: How big will the CR panel at SDCC be this year? They usually turn people away from the rooms they are given, could they get main stage this year?

Oh, they know how big they are. They're very good at media relations - it's their job. This is the same conversation we had when they filled out theatres at Gen Con. :)

The proceeds of the KS fund animation with them getting scale, which they could easily get for other projeacts.

What happens to the proceeds of selling the animation? Will they reinvest it in a second season?

Cant say, but that would be cool.

They'll probably reinvest part of such assumed future proceeds into the rest of the CR business. Whether any of that makes into their salaries, who knows? But it is certainly their right to do so. Fruits of selling the animation series are beyond the scope of the kickstarter.

And if they do sell the distributions rights, they would probably want to get the distributor to pay for some or all of the future animation costs.
