Current state of the online Character Builder

I just realized today that Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdom content isn't in the CB. I don't want to think about how long it'll be before it's added.

I've used the online CB a lot more over the last week and I guess I've escaped the worst of it. I've had one crash when importing a 11th level bard, resolved with a re-load of the CB, and also one hang while saving. Otherwise it's been comparably stable to the original CB (i.e. very good).

My disappointments mainly lie in the area of responsiveness (worse than the original), and features. For example the space allotted for personality, traits, background, and notes is pitifully small.

With that criteria you have been waiting on a working CB for the past 2 years.

Well, yes. Which is precisely why even very patient folks like Merric are reaching the end of their rope (especially given that the new CB has so far been a step backwards in this process).

I can use the new CB to make characters it supports, but it does not yet support ONE SINGLE character from any game I'm playing, when all were supported in the classic CB. Innate bonuses, DM created magic items, custom feats. Heck, I can't even give a character a net that they picked up because they aren't proficient with it which means that even though they can use it (just sans proficiency bonus), they aren't allowed to carry it.

I asked WotC for a refund for November since I have nothing I can use for ANY of my active games. I was turned down.

WotC has intentionally replaced the classic CB. The new CB has demonstratively less functionality. If I am getting less I want to pay less.

I think this will come together. But until it does, I don't think I should have to pay for it.

Yeah, I've had zero stability issues. It honestly hasn't crashed on me once.

I'm having all sorts of functionality and rules issues - inherent bonuses in particular, along with some missing items and a crappy marketplace interface where I can't even delete items from the inventory screen.

Take a guess which of the two I'd prioritize. :)

-O

The crashes are the smart things to prioritize. Even with a shoddy interface and rules-errors that make the characters it builds unusable, the crashes are something that would keep cropping up long-term and are a huge issue for how the program was built in the first place.

Once it can theoretically have enough juice to get from Point A to Point B, the next big concern is that it actually gets to Point B and not just in kind of the general direction of Point B before falling off a cliff into a river.

Okay, tortured metaphor.

From the Wizards boards:

Sigh. They've still got so much to do before it's ready... Note that none of the rules problems in the CB are even discussed.

In other words "You guys are not getting an update on the 7th - we still can't fix this buggy POS we forced out the door 3-4 months before it was ready, sorry! :)"

Yeah - not really caring at this point. My sub runs out in Feb/11 who knows maybe there'll be a Dragon article I read or a Dungeon adventure worth playing by then but I doubt it.
