[D&D 3.5] War of the Burning Sky [OOC] [Closed]

How much combat?

I've cut some of the more random combats out of the campaign because they slow things down, and that goes double for a pbp. Now I'm thinking y'all might want a few more. So what do you think? I'm not going to throw completely unrelated combats, but I could fit some more in if you'd prefer to resolve more conflicts through violence.

I think you should only run combats that can't be worked some other way around in pbp. They take two weeks to over a month to complete and you lose alot of where your at in that amount of time.

The only way to run a lot of combats is if you can be sure you can get a post a day or more out of your players. I once had 6 rounds of combat in one week. But that was the only time, now it has taken a week in the same game to get init from everyone.

Guess it is all based on players and the DM.

I'm pretty much in agreement with HM. Combats are good, but they can drag on. I prefer to run only important combats in games, unless they are just going to be very short battles.

Well I can think of a bunch of things we should try and do, but I have to play in the contects of character and Shaylir isn't one for tactics.

But I had a question - are we the right level for the part we are at? It seems to me that the game might be calling for characters ready for a big fight. Water ogres and the fire stag all at once? And us with only 2nd lvl spells.

We are near the end right there is nothing after freeing the sword - I could check but don't wish to - And the next module calls for us to be 5th lvl - not sure there either - so wondering if it calls for the PCs to lvl up before the last fight and that is why all the combats and RP before it.

I don't know anything about the adventure, but I do know ogres are tough. Just two of them could prove to be a difficult fight for our group, especially if we have to fight them in water. We're definitely going to have to think through how to recover the "living blade" and survive.

Do we need to fight underwater? Io think (therefore Shaylir does not) that I keep hearing that the stag is pinned to the lake bottom by the sword. What if we could get it freed enough that it comes to the surface and we face it there?

Would up are chances not fighting underwater without the proper magic. Which is why I wonder if the module thinks we should have access to water breathing in some form?

As far as I can tell the party is an appropriate level for the fight. Don't forget that you can hold your breath for your constitution in rounds during a fight, which is forever in fight terms.

EDIT: fixed how long you can actually hold your breath during a fight.

From this point until basically the end of the adventure it's going to be on like a pair of pants. We don't need to go into combat rounds quite yet, but things will be pretty intense for a while.
