[D&D 4e] IG's "Those Left Behind, Chapter 4(e)"

The old man looks as if he's trying to wrap his head around the story. "Forgive me," he says. "I know it ain't my business, but who is it that you don't want seein' you? The folks here in Thorndale got plenty else to worry about, what with the animals spilling outta the forest and all. Animal attacks have been poppin' up all over; that wasn't the first bear to come outta them hills."

Ike pauses for a second, reflecting. "'Twas the first two-headed giant to speak of, though."

[sblock=Perception 20]While Ike does seem perfectly likeable and honest now that he's not trying to run you off of his land, something does seem to be off. Not with Ike, but with the environment itself, the layout of the land, and the general overall atmosphere. Perhaps it's a bit too unfamiliar?

[sblock=Nature 20]Indeed, now that you look you can tell that this certainly isn't Ironfell. The mountains are too far back in the horizon (Ike did say things were coming out of the hills), and the air is a bit heavier. the foliage is thicker, greener. Yes, you are definitely closer to the coast than Ironfell. A lot closer.[/sblock][/sblock]

Shaimon Hu'u, druidic human ranger

Having more than cleaned his bowl, Shai leans back, Dyspeer's head resting in his lap. As their host begins speaking, however, the hairy man sits up straighter, looking toward the home's small windows. The wolf follows suit, sniffing the air as if to track something. He follows at Shai's heels as he wanders, brow furrowed to look out across the farm.

"Now that critters aren't trying to smoosh us and I'm all fed and such ... I can't be only one noticing this, right?" He points out across the view, to the mountains in the far distance, the trees. He takes a deep breath, gesturing as if this, too, should evoke some recognition in the others.

"We were in that tunnel a ways, but this is further outta Ironfell than we shoulda been. Lots closer to the coast."

As the burly woodsman looks back to his colleagues, unsettled, Dyspeer moves his head to rest beneath the man's hand, though whether it's to comfort Shai or Dyspeer isn't quite clear.

"That's very interesting. We were following up on an unusual number of monsters coming out of the sewers in the city. I thought we had found the root of the problem. But now you say there is an unusual rise in troubles from the forest as well. I'm not sure what to make of it."

Rogash considers the Druid's comments about their travel. Could he, a dwarf, have missed something so obvious underground?

Uulark Simental, Longtooth Shifter Cleric of Sehanine L11

"Our not being in the location where we ought to be is very troubling! Do you have any idea as to what has happened, Shai, or what may still be happening to us?"

"No need to ask forgiveness, sir," Buurt says with as polite of a smile as a half-orc can manage. "You've a right to worry about you and yours, and we'll do our best not to bring any trouble to your doorstep."

"Whether there's trouble enough to follow us, I don't know for sure." Adds the half-orc, "But I'm fairly sure it ain't enough to follow us from Ironfell, if that helps any."

To the other, Buurt joins in and states, "That's a lot of difference in distance traveled underground, and the outcome above."

Buurt has a passive perception of 23, so I take it that I'd just have to roll the Nature one, right? My Nature is +8

[sblock=Buurt]Your checks are enough to notice what Shai is talking about.[/sblock]

[sblock=Talashia]Being that there were hags involved at the core of this, you wouldn't be surprised if there was some magic involved.[/sblock]

Talashia frowns, taking in the observations of her fellows and trying to fit them into a paradigm that makes sense...

The truth of the matter hits her then, and she closes her eyes and groans.

"We've been moved magically. Teleported maybe, or something similar. We're no longer where we started. The hags...there were hags. They could have done this. A coven of hags can command magical powers."

She opens her eyes and focuses on their host. "Do you know where Ironfell is? The city?"

Shai stares a bit at the revelation, then as Dyspeer licks his hand to bring him back he turns to the others. "Well, now, isn't that a longer walk than we thought. But there's animals gone attacking the folks 'round here, too?"

The hairy man bites his lip. "I can't 'magine anyone else made it outta that cave in," he tries. "And these folk have problems we can maybe do better against than the goo. What do you all think?"

"Five days, Moradin's Silver Beard!" Rogash exclaims in shock.

He recovers and rubs at his chin. "Well, things were getting pretty hot for us back in the city. A little time out here while things settle down back there might not be so bad. We dealt the troublemakers quite a blow on the way out."
