D&D Experience: Questions YOU Want Answered?

Are fireballs round or cubic?

Everything is cubic. If it's a burst 1 ability it affects the main square and all the squares around it. If its a burst 2 ability, it affects the main square and two squares around it. Etc... Not sure how lightning bolts would work, but the DM did say that cones and lines were a thing of the past.

But seriously, how do the static perception and insight skill mechanics work in play? does the DM just say, 'you see a kobold behind a bush' with no roll? that seems so strange to me!

It was explained that its just like taking 10 with those abilities and its always in effect. So the formula is 10 + your ability modifier. So yes, no roll is needed. I had the Ranger, so the way it worked is that he would explain everything to the rest of the party, and give me extra details at the end. Now he did say that if you actively try to perceive something it would be just a normal skill roll which seemed a bit odd to me.

Well I think the benefit of active is if you roll higher then 10, you may spot things that your initial (passive) sweep of the area missed. It is sorta like you recomb the room with your eyes after checking out the surroundings.

Q1: Can the DDI character-creator be used to make character sheets for real-life tabletop game?

Yes.

Yes.

Q3: Could we see perhaps later on in DDI a Token-Program where all released monsters would have a Token version that can be dragged on to a grid, which can be filled completely with tokens so as to be printed out at proper size?

Well, you get the ability to use tokens for free. If your a non-subscriber and are playing a one off game, you get a token and not a 3d model. Whether you can print them out, I'm not sure. I'll try and get clarification on that.

Q1: How do environmental combat/hazards work. So things such as, swinging off a chandelier, kicking a chair at someone, slamming someone into a wall, etc.

Usually adjudicated by an attack against a certain defense. Strength vs. Reflex, Dexterity vs. Reflex, etc.

How does Two-Weapon Fighting work and how can you learn it.

Actually wasn't in the rules that my DM had. He thought it was going to be a specific power or feat, but there was no definitive info on it at all. Apparently this was the third set of rules he received (which were only maybe 30 pages) and we was told by Wizards that they weren't final.

This applies to Rangers too. I asked if I could Track. He said good question, I have no idea.

One question that you should bug them for is, are there any plans to make a Martial Controller class, or a Divine Controller or Divine Striker?

I know that the other 2 arcane classes (Swordmage and Bard) are coming, but I haven't heard anything about the others.

My question: What does a ranged weapon entry like "XX square normal/YY square max" mean? My guess is that you shoot to XX squares without penalty and up to YY with a penalty, but can you confirm this?

The second number is the max range. Any attacks over the first number is at a -2 to hit. Penalties for missiles with cover were either -2 or -5. Even if your trying to shoot a character behind an arrow slit, its only a -5 penalty.
