D&D leads to Christianity.

Hmm, Im sorry if I sounded like I judged the entire faith; Im an ex- Christian who resigned from the faith in a peaceful manner, and my very best friend is a Christian, but in the way Jesus meant by the Golden rule, not in the hateful way that is far too common and that takes far too much place in different medias.

Thanks Nemm...I have no desire to start a religious discussion. I was just taken with the quote and thought it might be cool to share with others.

When I said, "what would Jack Chick say to that?" it was really a retorical question meant to drive home a point. I don't care beans about Jack Chick as a person. It might have been more accurate to say "what would the anti-D&D fundamentalist nuts say to that?"

The idea that D&D, or a D&D supplement, could lead someone to religion (any religion) is really kind of cool. Cool in a geeky fanboy kind of way.

Wesleyan Church, actually. He was in seminary to be a Wesleyan Minister, according to an interview last year.

Want to touch my octopus?

I agree--Jack Chick is really just a harmless old coot who exists to provide vast amusement for us gamers. I LOVE the Dark Dungeons parody--one of the most magnificent parodies I have ever seen in my life. He's really powerless, represents a pretty small group of Christians, and is merely amusing to me.

Anyone have a good caricature of Chick? He would make a fun low level foe my party can kill around 2nd or 3rd level.
;)

I agree. We really do need some kind of D&D conversion of Chick. I may, in fact, create a villian of some sort based loosely on him. A misguided Sheriff that thinks that adventurers are evil or something along those lines.

Don't judge Christianity by Jack Chick. Judge it by Thomas Aquinas, Augustine of Hippo, or CS Lewis.

Or J.R.R. Tolkien.

Jack Chick is annoying, but at least he's amusing at times. Still, it's ridiculous to see him waste his time on his anti-D&D campaign when there're other causes he can devote himself to which could actually *gasp* help people! Serve the homeless food in a soup-kitchen. Or volunteer for charity work. Instead he wastes his time ranting and raving about D&D. Seems to me this guy needs to get his priorities in order if his intent is to help his fellow man.

Well, I suppose I could stat him. :)

Jack Chick, male human Com1/Exp3: CR 2*; Medium-size Humanoid (Human); HD 1d4+3d6-4; hp 9; Init +0; Spd 30 ft; AC 10; Melee unarmed strike +0 (1d3-2 subdual); AL NE; SV Fort +0, Ref +1, Will +0; Str 7, Dex 11, Con 9, Int 11, Wis 4, Cha 15.
Skills and Feats: Bluff +6, Knowledge (religion) +4, Profession (author) +6, Profession (cartoonist) +5; Skill Focus (Bluff), Skill Focus (Profession (author)), Skill Focus (Profession (cartoonist)).

If you want to throw him at a 2nd or 3rd level group, his CR is too low. To fix this, add the fiendish template:

Jack Chick, male human Com1/Exp3: CR 3*; Medium-size Humanoid (Human); HD 1d4+3d6-4; hp 9; Init +0; Spd 30 ft; AC 10; Melee unarmed strike +0 (1d3-2 subdual); SA smite evil; SQ darkvision 60 ft, cold and fire resistance 10, DR 5/+1, SR 8; AL NE; SV Fort +0, Ref +1, Will +0; Str 7, Dex 11, Con 9, Int 11, Wis 4, Cha 15.
Skills and Feats: Bluff +6, Knowledge (religion) +4, Profession (author) +6, Profession (cartoonist) +5; Skill Focus (Bluff), Skill Focus (Profession (author)), Skill Focus (Profession (cartoonist)).

* Jack Chick's younger days are gone, and he is is no longer as strong or supple as in the past. This lowered his physical stats and increased his mental stats. To compensate, I dropped his CR by one level as an ad hoc XP adjustment (DMG page 167).

heh heh heh...

But c'mon people, who has supported Jack in the past by buying a pack of the Dark Dungeons cartoons off his website? I'm ashamed of it, but it's a cult classic, and you have to have 'em. I'm gonna order a big pack in a while. I think it's only like 6.50 for 50 of them...

Dude, what about his levels of Cleric? :)

Jack Chick does do some harm. I've felt his effect quite a long distance from these boards in a class I'm in about evolution an extinction. A teaching assistant for that class was on a dig in some ancient streambed diggin' up some big nautilus shells (seriously, these things were about 3' diameter...), and a guy came up to the group and passed out Chick Tracks.

The TA braught it along to class, and passed it out with the actual fossils. The moment I saw "Chick Publications" on the back of those little comic strips, I laughed, and was looked at as if insane by the other members of the class.

I probably came off as an insensitive christian-hater, but I just couldn't help it...I never expected to actually have Jack Chick influence a lecture in Madison, Wisconsin. :) The guy's got his claws into some pretty wide fields.
