Ask yourself this: if you show up at a privately owned and operated television station and proclaim you have something to say, does the station manager's refusal to give you all the free airtime you want constitute an infringement on your 1st Amendment rights?

If you send an inflammatory letter in to a privately owned and operated newspaper and demand that it be printed on the front page, and the publisher declines to grant your request, does that constitute an infringement on your 1st Amendment rights?

When you've figured out the answer to these things, you'll have figured out how it works on a privately owned and operated message board.

Ok, perhaps you didn't notice the "i'm not saying this to be an ass" part of the post I made. I wasn't trying to be cynnical or rude or anything, and I even made that clear. You, however, have a very sarcastic and bitter tone that I'm not sure I like. I was not aware the Constitution did not apply to private businesses. I made the connection that a private business must abide by the constitution because of the following:
A company cannot have slave labor because slavery was abolished in the constitution
A company cannot discriminate based on race, sex, or gender because of the constitution. I was merely asking a legitimate question. There was no need for you to get uppity about it.

But I do have a question for everyone, including the moderators...how is it they have the authority to tell what can and cannot be said (aside from profane language)? We have the right to say whatever we please, save for promising bodily harm to someone. So, did I somehow miss some part of the registration that said "sign here to waive your 1st Amendment rights?"

I'd be more than happy to discuss this with you over email. aquerra@hotmail.com

You don't work for the operators of the message board, tho' - they provide a service to you, and free of charge at that. And any service provider is perfectly free to dictate the terms under which said service is provided to you, and to withdraw that service if those terms are violated.

Hey, let's just drop the whole first amendment thing, ok? I have no desire to see this discussion degrade into a religious/free speech debate. Nemmerle can handle this via e-mail if he needs to.

How would you work a Jack Chick type character into a D&D Campaign as a villian? The Whitecloaks idea isn't bad. Do you think that he should be against spellcasters, or adventurers in general? I know that in real life he is a powerless blowhard, but that wouldn't make for a very good villian.

Perhaps he could be a relative weakling with a strange form of charisma. Or a magic item that works on the weak minded? That way he could have a bunch of strong arms to enforce his particular way of thinking. Hmm... maybe he is passing out some kind of parchment that casts a Charm effect. I'm just brainstorming here...

Has anyone read the Wheel of Time? You know who Chick reminds me of? The Whitecloaks! LOL.

Not really. He's not nasty enough to be a Questioner, and a standard-issue Child is a rather competent soldier (at least 1 Armsman), which Chick most likely is not.

The first admenment keeps the government from censoring people in the United States. It doesn't allow you to say whatever you want in forum run by someone else, especially if (as in the case of this forum) the maintainers are not in the United States (Morrus lives in England).

My idea for a Jack Chick NPC was of a former Cleric of a God like Pholtus of the Blinding Light. He would be LN and probably no longer has access to spells. He has become so thich necked for even his own God and persecutes anyone who believes differently.

The Chick cleric would pretty much control a small village and rules it with an iron fist. He blames adventurers for all evil and when given a chance will rouse the local farmers into attacking adventurers who come into town.

The challenge of course is that even a 2nd level party would cream a group of villagers. The villagers are not evil and the Chick is not technically evil. He is just so arrogant and thich necked that he is nearly evil.

So what is a good aligned party to do?

Never underestimate the power of stupidity. You don't have to have a high charisma or magic powers to convince people who don't care enough to think about what they're being told from all sides.

And on that note, just think about what Mr. Chick believes in. He's not doing this to be mean, and though he might be misguided, I don't think you could possibly qualify him as a bad person. Just leave the guy alone, and hope he'll do the same.
