The article doesn’t say anything more, unfortunately, other than describing what D&D is — “Affectionately referred to by fans as D&D, the game is known for its wars, treasure hunts, campaigns, camaraderie, and reversals of fortune, all in a setting that combines humans, elves, orcs and hundreds of other creatures. The game famously uses multisided dice in gameplay to further the imaginary story and is overseen by a host known as the Dungeon Master.”

I think they should mine the latest Dr. Who format. An ensemble cast ( and production crew) that rotates out characters/showrunners every few years and slowly builds a library of bad guy costumes and effects over the seasons.

Like perhaps the mind flayers are S1 baddies and then come back for filler episodes in later seasons.

With luck, it can be seen as a vehicle for rising stars and be able to reinvent itself as it needs.

Also would be great to have Will Smith as the lead, Joel Edgerton as a supporting actor to Will. Either John Rhys-Davis or Lee Aranburg. I have a hard time deciding, since they are so good at playing Dwarf's. Ehh, oh well that's why we hold auditions. Lets see what else, oh yeah, Noomi Rapace as the villian Lucy Fry as the character, (maybe an Elf?), being hunted by Noomi's character.
The possibilities are endless
Pretty cool idea, what do yall think?

I think D&D-style fantasy is a whole genre waiting to happen, like the superheroes stuff of the last 20 years.

Absolutely. Shows like Hercules and Xena were helt back by the cost and state of special effects, and their intended audience. But Game of Thrones lead the charge for big budget fantasy shows aimed at a mature audience. Now we have shows like the Witcher following example. But arguably, the Witcher is much closer to the tone of D&D.

If the technology developed for the Mandalorian, where a digital landscape or set is displayed around the actors on a sound stage and shot in real time, were used for this show, could really allow a project like this to be done right at a fraction of the cost of GOT. Looking forward to seeing where this might go.
