Tharl Gornd’s Background –

Tharl Gornd’s Background –

Tharl is a war priest of Ashtren – “The Defender”. Tharl has been in the service of House Oe since he graduated from the seminary. He was honored when he was selected to be part of one of the detachments ordered to defend the territory of Oe from the murderous and savage orcs. In addition to being honored, Tharl was also surprised. Though a war priest, he had not participated in a prolonged assignment. Previously he performed his duties within the manor house of Oe. He was further confused by the order to ride out with a calvary group; he would have expected to be included in an infantry group. Tharl has never been fond of horses, and though serviceable with a crossbow, has not developed the typical longbow skills that mounted warriors often demonstrate. He is not concerned though, since, by Ashtren’s blessing, he has full confidence in his skill with sword and shield. He was taught well by the Weapon Master back in seminary, and is anxious to protect House Oe, its lands and its subjects. As he packs his gear for the journey ahead, Tharl wonders who he will be riding with. Who else has been selected to act as the forward bulwark against the depredations of the monstrous orcs. He also hopes to extol the virtues of Ashtren to his companions and to the commander of their expedition, Lord Ari and use the gifts of Ashtren to protect those who live under the banner of House Oe.

OK. We have Sam: tRPD and DE109. I am happy to roll with two. I'll throw in an NPC too stiffen the party if necessary.

DE109, I'm not much of a numbers person myself, but the character looks fine. Could you just edit in the Skill ranks ie: Spot 3/+5. The first number being the rank and the latter the effective bonus.

Thinks Chen Xiaoshu. Thats not Japanese. And whats with all the great hulking steel battleaxe and shield ... and ... humm ... actually, this could be interesting.

DE109, how about this. Your character is a Middle Kingdom warrior. He won't be particularly popular in Kore. The stories of the Middle Kingdom are full of tales of dark magics, evil spirits and terrible deamons. Mothers will snatch up their children as you approach. Men will mutter in the corners of the sake house. That kind of thing. On the other hand ... it could have its advantages. You can choose the reasons for his presence in Kore, but provisionally, no quests.

Sam and DE109. I would like to run with the masterless warrior scenario. I think that it allows for more flexiblity, both on my part and yours.

Sam, this would mean some adjustment to your background. You can remain a retainer of House Oe, or be independent of it. As a priest, you would not be considered masterless in the way as a warrior would, as a priest's allegience to his temple would be his first loyalty. An option would be for you to have chosen to walk with the masterless to guide them in the code of Strength and War. While a little unusual, this would still be an honourable path for a priest. Let me know how you'd like to set it up. Could you add also buy a light horse, if for no other reason than to soak up the gold.

OK, we can use the rest of this week to finalise details and see if any of the others resurface. I will also post a little more background stuff. Next weekend, I will start the a new Out Of Character (OOC) thread titled: Kore-Kingdom of Harmony. I will also start the In Character (IC) and Rogues Gallery (RG) threads.

Everything sounds great, DH. I added the values as per requested, and wrote up my character's background. Any problems, feel free to comment =)

Darkelf, the background is good. I have some questions but they can wait (see below).

I'm pleased that both of you have been quite restrained with your ability scores. That has definately earned you some good Karma.

I will be away for about 48 hours. See you when I get back.

Cheers.

Is this thing on?

Doghead, I've got no problem playing with two PCs, but perhaps if you changed the title to something like "D&D Weekenders [Recruiting]", we'd get a bit more interest?

Hey Sam

I thought about changing the title but decided to see if any of the others popped up. (Probably unlikely I realise.) On the other hand, I am in a game with two players (actually, a third has just arrived) and it moves nice and fast, so I am not too bothered about starting with just two people.

I have been leaving it as a "weekend" game for the moment. So I have been scheduling changes etc for the weekends.

OK, two questions for both of you.

1) Do you want to open the thread to recruiting again? (if Yes, do you want to start immediately with just the two of you or wait for some new players?)
2) Do you want to drop the "weekend" concept of the game?

I'm pretty much ok with any combination of answers here :p. I don't mind 2PCs, though wouldn't mind more either. I'm also fine with the "weekend" concept, though would be ok if it were a typical PbP timeline. I guess what I'm saying is it's your call Doghead.

I've never tried PbP before but I'd love to give it a shot and this looks like a nice laid back campaign where I can get to know the ropes. If you still want/need characters let me know and I'll happily roll one up. :) I'm on every weekday and some Saturdays, so I could post Friday, Saturday and/or Monday, so I don't think I'd slow the game down. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

I agree with Sam, DH. Anything you say is fine. I'm available most anytime, and I would be happy to go with more people. Like he's said, it's up to you :)
