D20 Jedi Guardian in D&D

4d8, presumably with no STR or Power Attack (since the damage doesn't seem to be STR based) is only 18 on average.

A 9th level STR based vanilla monk can do more than that, and they suck.

4d8 is base damage, and is better base damage by far than anything another 9th level PC is using. Even a Greatsword +2 is only 2d6+2 base damage. So 9 average vrs 18 average? And a 9th level Monk's base damage is only 1d10. The guardian is going to have a STR bonus (most likely) which applies, and possibly power attack as well. And all the other standard warrior feats like Weapon Specialization. And consider that the guardian can likely "Flurry of Blows" with his lightsaber as well.

Edit: I hope this doesn't come off as overly harsh. The point I was trying to make is that the 4d8 is base damage, just like a greatsword would be 2d6. All normal damage modifiers also apply. (And actually, the lightsaber's base damage is only 2d8, but the guardian gains an additional 1d8 damage with it every four levels I think.)

It's not logical (to me) that STR and Power Attack would apply to a light saber, but I am not familiar with the Star Wars rules. If those are the rules, those are the rules.

In that case, and with the additional fact of the scaling damage, the class seems "broken" in comparison to any non-casting standard class, but still underpowered compared to full casters.

However, easily fixed by giving your other PCs sliding damage too. Give the Fighter a +1d6 or +1d8 melee damage at 5th level and 9th level. Do something less extreme for the Rogue.

Fighters get Shock Trooper, Leap Attack, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Specialization, and Weapon Master (PHB2). I don't think they're going to have a problem dealing damage.

I dont let him have strength bonuses or strength based feats like power attack. But with the flurry and dual wielding, a full attack nets 4 attacks at -2. His AC is in the mid 20's. The wizard really doesnt stand a chance against him, as his saves will alleviate most of that, plus he can just tell the wizard "I am not the Jedi you want to hurt" Yes affect mind is a force skill.

I am thinking about giving him an ECL. I've already broken one of his sabres, well he did by fumbling and rolling the right # on the fumble chart. But he can rebuild it, which is a bit difficult but doable. He may make a new character, but whatever he ends up with will probably be optimized in silly ways (nothing normal for him.)

I usually let the gamers play what they want, as its for entertainment, and I work around most things. I should have spent more time looking at the class, would have never let it without heavy restrictions had I known how sick it was.

I'm sure we've all let things into our games at one point or another that we probably shouldn't have. I know I've been in that situation many times. Of course, what a PC can do, you can do better. So it sounds like it is time for two or three evil Jedi Guardians to assassinate him.

Yah, have had 1 dark jedi so far....Another is after him. But its a fine line between purposely killing the character, and presenting him a challenge.

Have you talked to the player directly and saying, "Dude, I love Jedi as much as the next guy, but you're seriously throwing me for a loop coming up with encounters to challenge both you and the party without it being a complete wash. I'm all for fun, but I don't want to other guys to feel left out, you know?"

If he cares about everyone's fun as much as you seem to, he'd probably be willing to A) pare the class down a bit more so that it more closely matches a fighter-mage's power level, or B) Play a 3.5 class.
