D20 Modern - What do we know/want?

Anyone know what to expect of D20 Modern later this year? I know that it won't support sci-fi settings. I also know that it will include 4 sample settings including Shadow Chasers. What else?

Seeing how the book is aproaching it's final stages now this is probably our last chance to say what we want and don't want out of this version of the d20 rules. Any thoughts?

One rather sticky issue is the use of WP/VP instead of HP. Is this wise? Wouldn't it be better to just limit the number of hp's a PC can have like CoC D20 did?

I don't even want to touch the whole AC/DR issue. I'll leave that to those who are better versed in it than I am.

Should classes be handled like they are in d20 CoC or more like the preview in Polyhedron (Shadow Chasers)?

What other issues need to be addressed to properly play a game in the modern world?

The Shadowchasers classes were horrible. Nobody would want to play those weeny classes just to get to a "real" class like soldier or mage. CoC handles this much better--as does Spycraft.

Im expecting it to have rules for running ANY genre with modern rules, from horror to modern-fantasy. Its probably not going to be, but oh well. If they did that, there'd be little reason to buy Spycraft or CoC ;)

If I just bought a new car and saw that a new model came out months afterward, would I buy it too? Nope.

Same goes for Spycraft and d20 Modern. I don't care how good it is, I'm not buying it for the sake of getting a new spin on (most likely) the same ideas.

Spycraft can be easily incorporated into a modern genre...and with all the OGL and homebrewed stuff on the net, I don't ever see a reason to get d20 Modern.

Besides, superspies with chainsaws is just too cool. :)

I'm hoping that the appearance of d20 Modern will ultimately lead to additional useful mechanics in the SRD which can ultimately find their way into the games of myself and others.

Cheers

Personaly, I am looking foward to d20 Modern for its addition to the SRD. Spycraft is very good, but I don't agree with the Class Defense and Armour rule. (that wearing any amrour negates your class bonus. Good for the Spy Genre but not as a "generic modern" setting). And the game assumes that the character are working for some type of Agency.

Now both of these can be modified, so it is not that bad.

I am waiting for my copy of CoC before I make and cirtical assment of it.

Most likely when d20 Modern comes out, I will get it. Mostly because I am collector of games, but also so I can take what parts I like from each game and mix and match.

Having many Good options for "Modern" Genres is not a bad thing.

I am hoping it will provide lots of d20 statistics and rules for every day modern items and occurrences. This will enable those who play Spycraft, CoC, THE END, and other modern settings to have more material. I am less interested in the modern settings it offers. I,too, am not so keen on the wound point/vitality point system, but it can be easily adapted I am sure.

I am personaly in favor of the Vitality/Wound Point system. For the most part it just means you get your CON score as additional hit points. However, when you are down to that point you are hurting and suffer penalities. For the Genre, I would prefer some area between, 100% effective and Dead.

This also allows criticals to do take down a character/creature in one shot by saying that criticals do Wound Damage bypassing Vitality.

My hope is that d20 Modern uses V/WP if only to add it the to SRD. Going between V/WP and HP is realy not that hard. So make V/WP the default option for d20 Modern, but make include rules (most likely about two paragraphs) on what to change if you want to use HP.
