David Farland's Rune lords

mystraschosen

First Post
SPOILERS---------SPOILERS

I just started to read the first book by David Farland, entitled The
Rune Lords.I am about 200 pages into it and I am enjoying it so far,the whole concept of the rune lords and the dedicates is very interesting. It doesn't have that epic feel to it for me,but none the less it is very good.Perhaps deeper into the plot it will be harder to put down..... So has anybody else read this series and if so what do you think about it?

BTW: (for people not familiar with the books)The runelords can use a metal called blood metal to draw an attribute such as sight,wits,grace,metabolisim,smell,hearing,etc...out of a person(dedicate) and add it to his own.A runelord could have three runes of grace, four of sight, and three of smell, etc, etc and it enhances their own abilities greatly. The person who gives up the said attribute loses it and must be cared for by the runelord. If one gave stamina to a runelord,he would become frail and weak until the runelord died,at which point he would get his stamina back and never be able to give an attribute again.

This idea is so cool I am going to try to make a prestige class out of it.

I've read the first book and I should get the other two soon. The rune idea is a very cool one. Wait until you get near the end and see what combat is like when you have a CON in the quadruple digits :)

I love the Rune lord novels!!!!!:D

Just wait till you get to the next two novels. They fight something that is in the first book, but at least in my experience I didn't really attribute too much to.
There are so many awesome campaign ideas in this series.
I'll kind of agree with you that I don't really get an epic feeling from this series, but has definitely been epic so far. If that makes any sense. I literally devoured these books when they first came out. The kind of reading where you look up and realize that it is four in the morning and you still read two more chapters;)

I believe the fourth book is going to come out this fall. I could be wrong. I know that it is finished. Farland is just waiting for the publisher to release it.

If you liked the books I have heard that they are working on a movie for it. I have no idea whether it will be one picture or several. I don't even think they have begun filming yet, but I did hear that they have decided on locations for filming though.

O.K. just finished the first book, and am starting on the second. You know the more I was reading the more I was getting into it.These books have jumped up another slot to awesome.

Man oh man was it super duper cool when King Orden and Raj Ahten were fighting with about 60-80 endowments of metabolisim.David has created a exciting new idea and has made it more realistic than "he is just a super powered saviour".I mean these are just normal people, and for the powers of endowment they pay serious prices. It isn't the cliche' "he is just the BEST fighter or FASTEST fighter around".The serpent that Orden formed was kick ass.

I am so excited to see if borensen finds Daylan. That was a pleasant surprise when near the end of book 1,binnesman tells of a possible meeting with daylan.I am very intrigued......
No one else familiar with these books?
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks everyone.

I ordered all three through the goold old science fiction book club and after I read the first one, I devoured the second two quickly.

One of the better series out there with heroes who aren't perfect and abilities that have penalties.

i've read all three, and i thought htat the first was the best by far. i've probably read it three times in the first 2 months. it was that good. the other two are good books as well, jsut not as good. they're full of intriguing and original and above all entertaining ideas, but at times they felt too divergent. the focus of the stroy felt a bit lost to me.

don't get me wrong, i still love them all, and i'll likely pick up the next as soon as it comes out, but i was disappointed with the second two. now it's entirely possible that thsi is because i was so enarmoured of the first book, but i felt that the others just weren't as tight.

still i highly reccomend them to anyone who appreciated good fantasy.

Ok I just finished the second book, and some things happened that I did not like.#1why oh why does Raj Ahten castrate borenson?....this is not good! Also what the hell happened to looking for Daylan hammer the sum of all men? Why does the second book flitter around so much? Why do they not kill Raj Ahten after the wylde disables him?

Side note:Myrrima starts the brotherhood of the wolf though and that is pretty cool, she got kick ass quick!:D

I just finished the first book, and am starting on the second. I'm pretty interested in it, but have been reading so much different stuff lately (mostly comics) that I haven't gotten much into it. By the way, could someone PLEASE mark this thread as having spoilers? Not to be rude, but mystraschosen gave away the end of the first book, as well as something that I'm guessing happens somewhere in the middle of the second. Think before you post man... =\
