Too bad, it looks like the d12 will go this round. That poor bugger really deserves more attention - even the d3 gets more play, and that one doesn't even exist really.

D12's forever!

The real killer for the d4 is that it is completely unnecessary as long as you have a d8, d12 or d20 around... it's just a d3 with an excuse to exist.

Worse, when it did finally stop, even with a magnifying glass you couldn't tell what number it had stopped on half the time.

It was really only good for throwing at problem players, and its tendancy to break open and spill its little counterweight pellet fillings all over the place made it near useless even for that.

It was kind of a fun conversation piece, though.


Addendum: Now, how about d5s? I saw an ad for them once....

The new d100s roll a lot better (ie: they stop rolling) and are easier to read.

Not great. But a lot better than when they were introduced.
 


I'm looking at this as "what dice are essential, what dice are just nice." I think we need 3 dice; a small number (d4 or d6) a bigger number (d8-12) and d20. For the small dice, d6 is the obvious one because its versatile and common, and easy to read. For a larger number, d10 is the best choice because of the base-10 number system most of us use (sorry, Binarians from the planet Binary-01).

So I got rid of d4 because it hurts the most if you step on it.
