Did you have trick or treaters? (sort of a rant)

So, hubby and I live in a pretty big apartment community. None of our doors are locked to the outside and so, if children wanted to, the could come and trick or treat at every door in the complexes... and, I really wanted them to!

I put up a sign on the door and sat with my huge bucket of candy... waiting.

And what did I get out of this waiting-- NOTHING! Not one ring of the door bell! Not one "trick or treat smell my feet!"

Have children forgotten the joy of trick or treating? In my day, a nice apartment community would be one of the first places I would hit up... all those doors... so close together!

How was your turnout this Halloween?

Same thing. We have specail nights for trick and treating, so mine was last thursday. They have specific day light hours for as well to make it safer fopr kids and they remove it from the weekend because of vandles diring the time. I didn't actually sit waiting for them, I had the candy ready and was doing things around the aprtment. We have no security doors, I live in a very residential part of town, but still nothing.

so I had candy to eat all weekend.......

we got two kids. our neighborhood is a residential one with lots of folks who hang out and chill together and lots of general good feelings. years ago, we had hundreds and hundreds, but i guess all the kids have kinda grown up. sad.

And now... a Halloween quasi-rant....

I have a whole bowl of candy sitting in my kitchen. I also live in an apartment complex, but did not see a single trick or treater!

From what I have been reading, part of the problem this year was that Halloween fell on a Sunday. Some people don't want to celebrate "The Devil's Holiday" on the Sabbath.

But then again, where's the fun of trick or treating in broad daylight? I though half the fun of trick or treating was going out in the evening with your friends. Most communities only give kids two hours or so to trick or treat. One cannot cover very good ground in that amount of time.

We had a bunch of kids come by. The immigrant kids in our neighbourhood seem to have puzzled out "Go door to door and get candy", but have yet to master "put on a goddam costume"

If I saw one more kid give me a blank look when I asked what his costume was (Ususally a ski jacket and track pants), I was going to scream.

The kid who was dressed as "Old School Kane" from the WWF was a winner,a nd was rewarded with massive amounts of Candy, and the Jailbait dressed as "Sexy Faeries" made me hate myself :)

we probably didn't get any where we live, but at my parents' house the kids kept coming and coming... we left around 6 or 7, so i can only imagine how many came after we left. :)

We didn't get any kids either. I don't think kids have forgotten, so much as the tradition has been ruined by those few bad apples who abused the trust and used it as an opportunity to hurt people. :(
