Dire Flail Proficiency

A sorcerer in my campaign recently found a Rod of Flailing, and doesn't want to spend a feat taking the proficiency.

I guess it is plausible that he could craft a Bracers of Flailing perhaps... I was thinking in lines of Bracers of Archery... giving proficiency to dire flail.. or all flails... any ideas of price and requirements? Same as bracers of archery perhaps?

Bracers of Archery don't grant an exotic weapon prof, just standard. You'll notice there aren't any exotic bows and the bracers don't include crossbows, only bows. Knowing this, Bracers of Dire Flailing would need to be really expensive, at least double that of Bracers of Archery, if not more, though figuring up the cost is gonna be tough. How much is an exotic weapon prof really worth anyway? Tough question...

Bracers of Archery isn't that expensive though... but I agree that it should be worth a good deal more, but I cannot see anything in Tome & blood that helps me figuring out the cost for an item that grants a feat for free...

Craft Magic Arms & Armor + Craft Wondrous Items + 15,000 gp market price? more? less? spells?

It's always hard to figure out the cost of these items. It's just like the Ring of Evasion, which is 25,000 gp. So how much would a Ring of Improved Evasion cost? Hard...hard...head hurt...

I would say 15,000 gp is a fair price. Though, to be honest, I have no idea if that is too high or too low.

I generally think it is not a good idea to allow the creation of items that give a character a feat for free. If you allow bracers of exotic WP, then why can't the fighter get bracers of whirlwind attack? The ability to gain something that you haven't earned becomes all to real and the only deterrent is cost, which is usually easily circumvented in d&d campaigns.

Then do you not allow intelligent items to grant the standard powers of Dodge, Mobility, etc? Intelligent items have the capability of granting feats as their powers. How do you handle those?

I don't allow the creation of anything that grants level 2 feats. By level 2 feats I mean a feat that requires another feat. I'm not ready to deal with a balancing issue like that. Maybe one day. The exception to this are intelligent items because they are so costly and there are inherent dangers in using them.

i say if he wants to use the item, he should get profeincy in it...He must learn how to use it, not craft something to get out of it...remeber, it is a game of choices, not easy way outs...

Like, say, Deflect Arrows?

Needs Improved Unarmed Strike.

What do you think we should charge for, say, gloves that allow someone access to the Deflect Arrows feat? :)
