Yeah, it's a bit odd that Eberron is supposed to have the same tone as FR and Birthright, especially given 3.5E's emphasis on Eberron as "pulp/steampunk fantasy"...but maybe they didn't want to split hairs so finely.I never liked Planescape, so that bit leaves me cold, but there are some other interesting details. In particular, notice how the settings are all categorized into one of three types:
(There may be, and probably are, others on the list; the page is cut off, so we can't see 'em all.)
- Heroic Fantasy (Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Birthright)
- Epic Fantasy (Dragonlance)
- Sword and Sorcery (Greyhawk, Dark Sun)
I wonder if the DMG goes into more detail on types of settings?

*OH, they've retconned the torus. Well, that's boring.
"Beyond the central continent of Faerûn, Toril includes the regions of Al-Qadim, Kara-Tur, and Maztica."
This makes me oh so happy. Always loved Maztica and it is nice to see they returned it to its rightful place.
